But Tangat dashed off up the stairs, and Kal is inclined to follow that sort of lead. Actually, Darren, you made up that part.

I'm not completely sure of that, Dave. But Tangat dashed off up the stairs, and Kal is inclined to follow that sort of lead. And while I'm not convinced splitting the party is the best thing to do, I know that bunching up in that hallway isn't going to do us much good, either. I figure, worst case scenario is that the three of us get up the stairs, see nothing worth fighting, and come back down the other set of stairs to flank the ooze. Actually I can think of worse cases... For instance, half of us go down the west hall, half of us go up top and Krez strolls out of the hall, overcomes the two crewmen in a single heartbeat, finds the captain helpless and decides she'd make a better bride. We re-gather and there's Krez with a newly minted vampress who's dragon-marked and has some wild control of the sea. See, coming up with worse cases is easy...

I did? Where did he go, then? This is what you've got to work with: ...Tangat's head turns suddenly, ears up, and bolts off down the nearest hall, barking his fool head off...
...Through his empathic link, Kal senses agitation from Tangat. He knows his friend is uninjured, but he's definitely barking at someone or something furiously. He can even hear him just beneath the rumbling of the storm. From the revulsion in Tangat's mind, Kal suspects that something is undead... He went north down the hallway on the east side of the ship. Nothing about stairs. That's the part you made up.

Well, fine. I made an assumption.
I still stand by the fact that we have nothing to gain by bunching up in that hallway. If the three of you find Krez standing there as you go past, it's easy for us to turn and make our way through the sickbay. We won't get to the stairs this round, anyway. And if he's gone up top, then we can hopefully stall him until you get there. If he's not in either place, then we come back down the stairs and flank the ooze from the other side. In any case, we still need some of us to go up that right hallway.

I don't think we're done with Krez. And I don't think we should try tackling him without everyone together.
Tangat is down on our deck barking at something--whether it's Krez or not remains to be seen. But we need to regroup before we taking on this next phase, in my humble opinion.

Let's leave Shorak in the hold to stand guard while you guys regroup and figure out what the next move. This way you won't have to deal with my erratic posting over the next week.

Sounds good to me, Dave. I was about to suggest that somebody stay behind in case Krez is pulling a fakeout and follows Dave W's nightmare scenario.

If you prefer, have someone call out that the ooze is dead. We'll bust through the sickbay and meet up in the middle. Then we can head up top, if necessary.

Sorry if my post about worse cases came off as snide or whatever. I was really going for funny.
In any case I'm liking the current plan... leave a strong guard and the rest go investigate Tangat's complaint.

Jeff, based on that Nature check, would Belarin know the best way to deal with this stuff, if he believes that it really is mold (albeit exotic) vs. an animate ooze? For instance, would fire/heat/radiant damage seem to be more effective than other types? Or would another Nature check be appropriate? The stuff on the cook right now seems inactive -- possibly permanently, possibly not. We have time for one shot to drag him out. Adamant would seem to be best suited for this, if only for his hefty Fortitude defense. (I know that Belarin and Kal don't rank highly there.) Krez will be on Shorak and Histra within seconds. You're an evil man, Jeff.

Oh, I don't know. I'm not so bad.
Belarin has little to compare to, but if it is just non-ooze mold, then any damage type is likely to harm it in some form. Maybe not so much with poison or disease, but everything else should harm it just fine.

FYI, Darren, I don't think the PCs were splitting off "one by one" as much as it was the sequential nature of PBeM posts. Condign hadn't actually moved, and I didn't plan on Belarin charging solo. He's hoping to get Krez in the brig. Out of game, I don't think he knows about mistform, though. At the very least, it might keep Krez contained in one spot long enough for Streko or Adamant to punish hi with radiant damage.

The crewmen glared at Kal.
But don't worry. He took it the way he usually does. He couldn't see them through his own ego. ;D

The crewmen glared at Kal. Well, his words would be more inspirational to his fellow party-members, less so to the crew who just lost a man.
