Okay, right. Grabbed. Always have to look this up, because it doesn't happen often enough to remember each time. While a creature is grabbed, it is immobilized. Maintaining this condition on the creature occupies whatever appendage, object, or effect the grabber used to initiate the grab. This condition ends immediately on the creature if the grabber is subjected to an effect that prevents it from taking actions, or if the creature ends up outside the range of the grabbing power or effect. So firstly, yes, it means Adamant can't move out of that space until he escapes. Attempting an escape is a move action and an Acrobatics check (vs. Reflex) or Athletics check (vs. Fortitude). If he succeeds, he can shift 1 square as part of the same move action. Failure just means he's still grabbed. Adamant can still do attacks, as long as they don't require him to move. Being grabbed generally has two consquences: (1) The not moving thing. (2) A secondary, nasty attack from the monster that requires you to be grabbed first and will happen on the following round. ;D Good question, Darren. Strictly speaking, I believe that if the ooze is moved beyond the reach of its grabbing, it loses hold of Adamant. But I'm giving it a +2 circumstances bonus because it's also now anchored to him. Unless Adamant escapes his grab before Kal's push effect happens.

What the heck, I decided to post now and not wait for the answer on the grabbed thing. This way I'm not slowing things down.
back to work...

I'm still going with what I've got already... a little worried about being grabbed but I'm convinced I'd not succeed at either check (+2 for Athletics; -1 for Acrobatics)...

Just a +2 for Athletics? It should be at least as high as Adamant's Strength modifier.

Adamant's Athletics check breakdown:
Athletics = +2 (½ level +3, Str +3, armor penalty -4)
Though I admit, I need to track down precisely how that penalty was calculated...hmmm.

Dave (W): I can't for the life of me figure out where I got that -4. The heaviest armor in the books is only -2 when it comes to penalties. So I've gone ahead and changed Adamant's penalty to -2 as well. His Athletics is now a +4.

Ah, duh, armor check penalty. [/palm to head] Thanks, Jeff. Gee, you'd think I have a fondness for playing unarmored magical types or something... P.S. Joe, good move with the daunting light! If Kal's 22 vs. Fortitude wouldn't have hit before, that +2 for combat advantage should push it over.

Dave W. contacted me via e-mail; he can't post now.
So I had the -4 right, for both heavy armor and large shield.
In any case, since he's without a shield right now, he's having Adamant go ahead and try to the escape attempt.
I'll post soon.

You know, for now on, I think that I'm going to stop guessing (in character and out) about bad guys and their activities. Neither Belarin nor I have been correct once!

And, for the record, I don't go changing around my plans based on your discussions. Promise! You guys have had good guesses in the past, so it keeps me on my toes to come up with scenarios ahead of time that won't be too predictable.

By my count, we've done somewhere around 70 points of damage to the ooze, and it's not even bloodied, yet.
And now Krez is here.
And Syrdan is....occupied.
We might be in trouble.........
We definitely need to gang up and finish this ooze off as quickly as possible, but not use up all of our good powers doing it.

Brian, thanks! Regarding initiative, I already stated that Belarin was delaying until after Streko. Since Condign goes at the same count, it should take just a little kindly DM indulgence to say that Belarin goes after Condign, too. OK with you, Jeff?

Sure thing. If you're just delaying to be after another character, no biggie.

Belarin: "Where is Corporal Krez?" he yells mockingly as he backs toward Kal. "Or have you been demoted to Sergeant after your debacle on the Ex-Patriot?" Why did that line make me think of "Hogan's Heroes"? Somehow I picture Colonel Klink yelling "Buh-LAR-INNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!"

And there's an old Pink Floyd song from A Saucerful of Secrets called "Corporal Klegg." Good to hear from you, Mike. I hope the family is doing well.

Jeff, did you account for Condign's Inspiring Word used on Adamant?

Brian, good move with the second attack! Hey, I don't think you used a Move action in your post. You could use it for the end of your turn to attempt to escape from Ooze #2, assuming Ooze #1 is (or will soon be) icky strawberry jam before their turn. One other note: I think Krez is heading upstairs to take care of Lerrhana and Syrdan. But I'm the Guy Who Guesses Wrong, so caveat emptor.

I was thinking that it's a bad sign that he hasn't showed up, but I also don't think there's much we can do about that until we deal with the oozes.

I think this brings us back to that previous debate. Which I thought we clarified, but I may be wrong.
Some powers say "you and your allies," and some don't. This implies that you are not considered your own ally. So if a power doesn't specifically mention you, it doesn't benefit you, only your allies. So I don't think Condign can spend that healing surge from his own power.

You know how some people are good at inspiring others but aren't so good at inspiring themselves or taking their own advice? (Like my wife!) ;D
Yeah, I guess that's Condign. Right now his actions are inspiring, but he's too damned angry and cranky to feel his own spirits lifted.

Yes, you are not one of your allies... It was always annoying when I played a warlord... Most warlord powers helped everyone except the warlord.

Hey, Dave W. One of the consequences of using a charge action is: No Further Actions: The creature can’t take any further actions during this turn, except free actions. So he can't use Lay on Hands this round.Doh! I hate when I mess up... it's just not as much fun as when other people do... I'll take some of that.

Why do we think Krez is above decks? Last we knew he was in that long hallway, right? I'm sure I missed something... Also, why is that splitting the party always brings a smile to a GM's face; I can't remember, if only someone could remind me in a bloody, painful way...

I'm not completely sure of that, Dave. But Tangat dashed off up the stairs, and Kal is inclined to follow that sort of lead.
And while I'm not convinced splitting the party is the best thing to do, I know that bunching up in that hallway isn't going to do us much good, either. I figure, worst case scenario is that the three of us get up the stairs, see nothing worth fighting, and come back down the other set of stairs to flank the ooze.
