I should just know better...with the temps topping 100 our here, the electricity demand has risen and there are brownouts occasionally and I should just really know better...but I don't and I'm too dimwitted to change...so this will happen once in a while.
Suffice it to say that Streko was as florid as usual...and quite melodramatic as well.
Heh...now, what I wanted to say abou

Interesting idea, Dave. Anyone else think we should explore this further?

I just spent half an hour typing a post that was beautiful and poignant and my GODDANGED internet craps out on me...I am so pissed off right now. Don't know if this helps, but I ususally write my posts in a text editor and then cut-and-paste it into the reply. Partly that's because I can see it better (the message window is kind of cramped), but it also lets me save and stop if I have to go take care of something in the middle of posting. I do the same for just about any internet post (forums, my blog, etc.) that's more than a sentence or two. I've had things crap out on me way too many times ... easier to write a post in something Word-based and paste it into a reply. I also feel better walking away from a half-written post, as I can save it.

If you're rolling your own Initiative, and you haven't done so already, don't forget to add the +2 modifier because of Condign's Combat Leader Class Feature (and rugged good looks!).

Agreed, and I hadn't considered that. I think most of us should just get out.

Darren:
I pushed my slime to try and escape the opportunity attack caused by Condign and Syrdan retreat. I forgot to put my movement in yesterday, but I fixed that just now. I hope I was right about the push thing.

The vitally important question is: if this chapter is called "The Limitless Rise", why are we barrelling down a drain? Clearly we're on the wrong track.
Or maybe I'm finally done cleaning up other people's screw ups at work and my brain has gone wandering into strange, strange geographies...

Ken:
Don't worry about Condign. He has healing surges left plus his last daily power that grants everyone within 10 squares the use of a remaining healing surge with a Charisma bonus. (I think that's the bonus; I'm typing as fast as I can in between phone calls at work.)

Ken: Don't worry about Condign. I was specifically concerned about Syrdan. The nice thing about my healing is that it doesn't use up the target's surge. So even if Syrdan is out of surges, I can heal him. Condign and Strego's healing won't work if the target doesn't have a surge. Mike, if you think now is the time for more healing, let me know. Or we can save it for later. But I'm pretty sure I only have one left until we take a long rest.

Jeff:
I'm sorry, Jeff. I didn't really resolve that post. As no one objected, I would believe Condign knocked two pitons into the wall and tied off the rope, thereby securing Streko, Varna, Adamant and himself to the wall. I seriously doubt it would hold should the net fall, but it may be enough to prevent a serious injury.
If you would like me to amend a post, please let me know.

Oh! Yeah, hammering pitons in may have repercussions. So I'd rather not assume that already happened. If that's all right.

Yeah, I hadn't assumed that Condign had actually done it. He asked, and then other things happened, and I assumed he dropped the idea. At least, I hope he did. It probably would have been a bad idea.

I'll try to do a better job next time of communicating what I was thinking - namely, I wasn't trusting the net, and I was trying to work on a plan to make sure we didn't suddenly get dropped. Openly discussing how loud pitons would be wasn't quite what I had in mind. I was hoping to be a bit more stealthy than that - just get into position to do it, and then either start hammering away if things started looking bad, or (which was the reason Syrdan was examining the cave wall, to see how rough it was) just trying to find a nice spot to either tie the rope around or to just jam a piton without a hammer. Lessons learned for next time.

Okay, so all this otyugh needs is some potty training. Easy, right? Oh wait ... so far, I suck at potty training.

It's been a long time since my 16- and 11-year old were potty trained. We learned a lot from Caity and did better with Sam. But I don't think I'm willing to go back there so you guys are on your own!

I first started playing D&D when I was about eleven. One of the first monsters my first character ever encountered was an otuygh. The DM tried explaining what it looked like to me, what it did ... I wasn't getting it. Somehow, nothing he said registered.
Finally, he just said: "It's a poop monster."
I'm glad that still makes people laugh over 25 years later. ;D

Just FYI, Darren: in dim light, humans and halflings can see and identify objects and creatures for the most part, but all targets have concealment (-2 on attack rolls). To elves and tieflings, they can see just fine in it.

Yeah, I figured that. I just wanted to not be plunged into total darkness and have the otyugh shamble up next to us without knowing it.

Darren:
I like it! Condign sees quite well in low light, so he'd like to be behind, offer himself up as bait, a little in case the light isn't enough to draw in the beastie. He can run in the dimmer light toward the exit.
Overall, a good plan.

Every time I hear the word "plan", I recall the old Prussian general, "no battle plan can survive contact with the enemy." but I do like the plan...

You mean Kal will be within the range of his own light? Yes; he'd be on its edge. But the light won't fall directly on the otyugh ("beside the creature," as you wrote). Was that your intent?

Yeah, I modified the post after I wrote "beside the creature", but my general point was that the range of the light is 5 squares. However, Kal shouldn't be IN the light, because the spell says it fills its square and all squares within 4 squares. So, unless I'm misinterpreting, if Kal is five squares away, he shouldn't be within the light. Right?
