As a side note… or maybe a war story… i don't know… feel free to ignore…
I've always had some difficulty with Commune type spells. Mostly because it's not a conversation and one unexpected response can derail the whole thing.
Anyway, in one of my f2f games, we did a Contact Other Plane spell. Our asperger-y player spent, literally, 3.5 hours developing the flowchart of questions… at the end of which, he was pissed off because we "weren't helping" (most of us had checked out after the first half hour or so) and we were pissed off because that was about as bad a session of D&D as we ever had. I tried a couple of times to break him out of it but he kept saying that his character was going to spend untold hours preparing these questions so we were going to too.
Afterwards, when the player suggested we spend 3 or 4 days preparing and re-casting until we had all the information we could get (yes, he has a difficult time reading the room), the GM houseruled these spells in self defense. If you cast a Commune or Contact Other Plane, you tell the GM what the subject is and he will give you a couple of pieces of information. I think if we had taken a vote these spells would simply have been prohibited after that session…
So anyway, Darren you did fine. These spells are always difficult.

A worthy story to share!
A flow-chart, wow. That sounds painful to manage.
