And that's when both Condign and Shorak, who see through the spectral creature, spy something moving low to the ground about fifteen feet behind it. Somethings. Bones! Suspended in air, moving as one...
Another Khyber cube, gliding silently toward them. I have the image in my mind of a Khyber cube queen, similar to the alien queen in Aliens, down there somewhere pumping out cube after cube after cube....

Okay, Dave W. Apparently you know something. Just ignore all of Jeff's past negative reactions to meta gaming--they're simply a ruse, a ploy, sour grapes. Spill the beans! Let loose the secrets! I promise Jeff won't do anything...untoward...to your character in retaliation. Really. I promise.
Really.
In all seriousness, do we have any healing to bring Adamant up to at least a point. Aven can't keep carrying him.

I don't think Belarin has any potions left.
Joe, does Streko have any spell slots left? Just something to get Adamant walking again?

It's been said a few times already, but here initially, as to why Adamant is not up and walking right now. And Streko has only two spell slots remaining (one 1st-, one 2nd-level).

Oh crap. I forgot. He's got the rot.
So we need a remove curse AND a heal.

Kylo Ren is making them move with the Force because his daddy didn't love him enough. Listen for the mechanical-sounding whining and that's the big bad...

Just waiting for Shorak's next action. Still leading party through northeast passage? A battle will begin before he gets far.
In the next "turn"'s worth of action, the cube will definitelly overtake Aven. It's twice as fast as he is. I know Kal intends to keep with him, but remember the cube can move and engulf in the same action and if he stays on the same level as Aven it can simply try to engulf both of them. So he may he wish to go between Aven in the cube.

Quick question before we make any other decisions.....can Belarin willingly remove the Sovereign Glue that he put on the door if we go all the way back around the acid pit?

Regarding Belarin's position, my intent was that he's heading "northeasterly" toward the upper right passage. He will avoid walking into walls. 😉

I would argue that's not the case based on this: "You can also use this spell to detect the presence of thinking creatures you can’t see. When you cast the spell or as your action during the duration, you can search for thoughts within 30 feet of you. The spell can penetrate barriers, but 2 feet of rock, 2 inches of any metal other than lead, or a thin sheet of lead blocks you."Well, this is how you stated it: Briefly closing his eyes, Kal uses his emotions to reach out to the creature, trying to glimpse into its thoughts. ______________________ Kal will cast Detect Thoughts on the umber hulk.Nothing in there sounded like the alternative "You can also use this spell to..." part of the spell description. You specifically stated the umber hulk as being your target. That sure sounds like you were working with the primary description of the spell: If you were casting it generally with the purpose of detecting any thinking creature you can't see, I would expect you to say so.

And c'mon, Darren, work with me here: Kal continues to attempt his communication with the creature. "Have you seen a sphinx here?" he asks. In his mind, he forms an image of Llash-Tava the way he remembers seeing her in Dollurh, and also of Argushem as he appeared at the Coin Lord's gala. "Is she here?" I specifically said you need to decide whether you're trying to probe into the monster's mind further, because success or fail, it reveals to it that you're doing this—which could have its own consequences. So I need to know. Detect Thoughts can't do anything you're mentioning here. It's not telepathy, it doesn't let you put your thoughts into its head. It's not communication. It's specifically meant to siphon information from the target's mind. One way. Please please read the spell descriptions first before going with them. At this point he needs to decide whether to probe deeper into the umber hulk's mind: If he chooses to do so, then it has to make a Wisdom saving throw against him. If it succeeds or fails, the umber hulk will then know that you are probing into its mind. Read the spell description again to know what else that can mean. Right now it's unaware, though he thinks it may be smart to enough to know that his spoken words and gestures were indicative of spellcasting.

To clarify: picturing something in your mind won't do a thing. If the target can understand your spoken language and you then say stuff it can hear, then sure, its thoughts (if you're forcing it to make the save—which I need to know you're intending—and it fails) might reflect what it knows. But that's now that you're suggesting here.

Fair enough. I did miss the part at the beginning about creatures you can see. Like I said, it wasn't really that important, and I'm willing to let Kal look at the umber hulk if that's what's necessary.
As for the rest, yes, Kal is probing deeper into it's thoughts, but I was working with this part of the description:
"Questions verbally directed at the target creature naturally shape the course of its thoughts, so this spell is particularly effective as part of an interrogation"
The mental image was mostly for flavor.

Ken, while Eldritch Sight is up, you may also want to check out the artifacts left behind by the cube...

Pretty sure Belarin Eldritch Sights almost in his sleep now. Arcana? Just in case, I rolled a check. It's an 8. Kal knows nothing, Jon Snow. Game of Thrones quote, eh?

Jeff, could Prestidigitation be used to clean the acid off the same way it does with water?

Yes! That's an excellent use of that spell, too. Roughly 6 seconds per object, too.

Kal will use Prestidigitation to remove the acid from each of the items as well as from the skull. THEN he'll collect them. Unless Belarin says they're cursed. Note: Belarin's Detect Magic can never determine whether something's cursed or not. For that matter, Identification rarely can, either. Cursed items are not obvious until it's too late.

Okay, I screwed up on my post. I thought there were two levers, one in each hallway. Not two levers in each hallway. Good thing Condign rolled a 5 on his Intelligence check!
Jeff, I'm assuming there is no way one person can pull both levers at the same time; none of us has, I believe, a ten foot arm span. That leaves us in a quandary. How do we get two people beyond those bars with only one potion of gaseous form? Or do we send one person past the bars to explore?
