It hasn't been very long in game time. Long enough for some of your talk and formation, but not too crazy. A few minutes. In real life, yes, Shorak is silent because he's not in the main thread and a long weekend just passed in which I was away.

Condign draws his sword. "We are leaving!" he shouts. "Everyone, follow me." He begins striding purposefully back the way they came, his tail twitching with each step. For reference, and this will become quickly relevant in a chase scenario.... Adamant, Belarin, Histra, and Kal all have a speed of 30 feet. Streko's speed is 25 feet. He's got short legs, what do you want?! Condign's speed is 20 feet (he is somewhat encumbered). If Condign dropped 29 lbs. of equipment, his speed would go back to 30 feet. His rations and rope together are 20 lbs.

I had been planning on ditching some stuff. I just wanted to wait for a less urgent time. But, as they so, no time like the present.

So Addy doesn't have Sentinel yet, as we've not rested since hitting 8th. Pity. I think we might want him to by the end of this encounter...

I am waiting for Darren to reply, and he said he was going to be spotty this weekend, right? Streko won't leave without Kal and Tangat, so if they aren't moving, then neither is he.

Guys, I wanted to try and update the map this morning, but I'm just getting more confused. Is anyone not moving at all? Dave's last post ("I'm not sure if Histra is planning on running or standing with Adamant and Belarin") suggests he's standing still and not actually running/retreating like most of the party. I really need stated actions and not implied verbal actions. I see many stated actions but not all and some that are conditional (like Streko's) upon others moving first. Confusing for me.
REALLY trying to avoid after-the-fact claims of "I wouldn't have done that" and that sort of thing.

I think I should be able to actually post later this morning, but my understanding is that everyone is running, but that Adamant and Belarin are running at the back of the line. Kal MIGHT do a fire and move each turn, as the situation dictates, but I'll be sure to let you know that each turn.

Just need to make sure everyone's on the same page. Dave, can you confirm? Is Adamant not "standing" as you say?

Adamant will stay next to Belarin. If Belarin is running, Adamant is running. He doesn't want to leave one party member cut off on his own, even the Lich... I know once we get into initiative that may be hard to model, but that's the intent.

Okay everybody, all together now, "Whelmed to the left of me, sahuagin to the right. Here I am, stuck in the middle with you."

*clap clap clap*
For what it's worth, I think we need to try to go through the Whelmed and hope that the saghuin get caught. If it doesn't work, though, I think this is the end for us...
Opinions before I post for Kal?

Agreed. There is a narrow space off to the left. I say we make a Dash through that opening and hope for the best, though I suspect at least one Whelmed will attack; one is already crouching. We will play that out if it happens.

Since Kal and Tangat are going first, and therefore Darren needs to make the first call about how to handle the Whelmed, Darren, you should also give me a contingency. If the Whelmed attacks—essentially as a reaction (opportunity attack), will Kal stop to deal with it or just run on? Note that if it does (and of course there are two of them to pass between), each Whelmed only gets one reaction.

I agree. We should just run for it and just hope we get out of this alive.

I don't think I'm currently holding things up, but for when I do... (yes, we are once again achieving peak lunacy at work... strive hard to break those barriers...)
Adamant is not going pass whoever is trailing the group... so if Belarin runs by Streko, Adamant will start moving with Streko at his pace.

"Straight through!" Kal commands. "No stopping!" Putting his head down, Kal charges forward, then disappears in a crackle of electricity and appears on the far side of the Whelmed. ______________________ I didn't want to risk Kal taking the opportunity attacks...one or two hits might kill him and we don't have time to pick him up. According to my sheet, Kal still has a second level slot available, so he'll use it as a first level slot to cast Lightning Shift.
Ideally, Tangat should delay his action and wait for someone else (Condign or Adamant?) to run past the Whelmed and use up their opportunity attacks before he runs through. He probably can't take the hits, either.I think you mean use a 2nd-level slot to cast a 1st-level spell, right? So casting Lightning Shift uses your move and then doubles that move so that you go 60 ft., then you're still left with a regular action. Which could be an attack, another spell, etc. Or do you just want to Dash with that action for a total distance of 90 ft? You'd be really placing yourself way ahead of everyone else, though. What would you like to do? Regarding Tangat, there isn't a delaying action in 5E, but he could move 30 feet (placing him adjacent to a Whelmed but not leaving its reach and provoking and attack), and instead using a readied action with the condition that he'll do the Dash maneuver after another ally moves past the Whelmed. In effect, it would look the same as just waiting and moving, albeit with a bit of a slower start since as a dog he can actually move 50 ft. normally.

With regards to Tangat, yes, let's do what you said.
With regards to an action....I guess he might as well attack someone. I'll edit my post.

really? Attacking someone feels aggressive... If we're not intending a fight, I'd just let the action go unused... attacking sounds like starting a fight...

I think the fight is coming at us whether we like it or not. I figure we might as well try to either deter them or get in as many hits as we can before they're on us.

Jeff, have we reached that group of undead who were greedily watching the arrival of the new spirits?

No, not even close. That was when you had entered the Harbor district but hadn't reached the docks yet. This was the post that was a transition between them. I wrote the word "soon," but we're still talking at least a number of minutes of walking between that street and the dock level you're on now. Depending on how the next few rounds go, you'll be able to choose which way to go once you reach the regular street area yet. Remember that right now the sahuagin move faster than Streko.
