The colonel waves his sword at Adamant, then points it north toward the watchtower, toward the Thrane army. "Hurry on! We need to reach that tower before they do! Go! Claim it and hold it until the rest of us get there." "Yes sir." Adamant replies as his training demands. He sets off at a run.
Most people don't understand that warforged get tired as any creature would and long days of marching have had an impact on this one but Adamant is reinvigorated by having been given this mission.
it is proper to be serving my leaders; Adamant thinks as he approaches the tower. This is what I was constructed to do. It is clear and purposeful. Obeying is so much clearer, so much less complex than ... than what?? Choice?? Freedom?? What sort of these? Focus... There is combat ahead.

Adamant runs forward, leading two squads with him. One squad is entirely warforged, while the other are human. All loyal to Queen Dannel. Each soldier, like Adamant, is on foot, but looking ahead he can see that the Thranes have spotted them and a group of them are breaking off from their army to make for the tower as well. Now it's truly a race. And at least two of them are on horseback.
Halfway to the watchtower, motion to the west draws Adamant's eyes. He turns his head just enough to make it out:
At the edge of a small forest, the edge of these grassy highlands, is a small camp of noncombatants. It's bad fortune to have been camping near a soon-to-be field of battle. Even from this short distance, Adamant can see that there's children there...in fact, they're only children. Teenagers, at the oldest, looking back toward him and his squad and the coming battle.
Then Adamant sees a large shape emerging from the tree line behind the camp: a warforged titan crashes from the under- anf overbrush, tearing small trees aside as it goes. Adamant has seen titans from a distance, but has never faced one in combat, or in peace. This one....from here Adamant cannot discern its allegiance (which army has commissioned House Cannith for it), but it appears to be crashing through toward the kids with a purposeful stride. One massive arms ends in a stone-like hammer, the other a huge axe blade.
Somehow Adamant realizes he's the only one noticing the warforged titan and the camp so far.While Adamant stands at the chest, the rest of you detect sudden movement... The dead sahuagin lying among the seaweed lurch into motion. Slow at first, then more frantic. But these aren't just corpses. As they rise up, you can see putrid black slime oozing gradually from their gills as they begin to "breath," and a slavering wheez issues from their widening mouths. What passes for lips have withered and drawn back, revealing the rotten gums and full teeth. Tongues that look more like dead eels snake out of their mouths, longer than you've seen from the living sahuagin. Hras'Ka, alarmed as well, hisses something to his fellows, which Streko understands to mean, "The Devourer tests us! All of us!"The undead sahuagin closest to Adamant turns and looks toward him. Shorak watches Kal, Belarin and Adamant approach. He can tell that they each in turn try to open the chest and then begin examining it more closely. When he sees Adamant motion for his friends to return to the bubble, Shorak realizes he's been holding his breath the whole time. He moves forward to assist Kal and Belarin back into the air bubble. Taking back his lock picks from the warlock, he looks up to see an unmoving Adamant and the sudden movements of the dead Sahuagin.
"It never ends." He raises his crossbow to fire, but hesitates. "Are we allowed to interfere here or are we forced to watch this event unfold?" This he says both to his companions and Hras'ka.

"I do not care what the rules are," says Condign. "I will not let a friend be attacked while he is unaware of the danger." But before he can leave the bubble, one of the undead creatures approaches and attacks Belarin. His friend's blood flows heavily from the wound he has received. Condign moves to stand next to Belarin and chops hard at the creature, using his strength to try and break the thing's grip on his friend. ____________________________ Movement Action: 1 square SE Minor Action: None Standard Action: Use Brash Assault on the lacedon in front of Belarin. If it attacks Condign, Shorak gets to free attack with combat advantage.
Attack Roll vs AC: (1d20+6=23) + an additional 5 to the modifier for a total of 28.
Damage Roll: (1d10+5=13)

Adamant turns his run to angle towards the camp. He calls back, "Titan." and points to the woods. "Go, secure the tower, if it is unfriendly, we will fight it there."
"Little humans!" Adamant calls to the camping children, "Run!! You are not safe there. Run and get behind me!"
Looking at the Titan, he calls to it as well.... "Titan! I am Adamant, a soldier of Crye! Declare yourself! Are you friend or foe of the Crown?"

As Belarin watches the corpses begin to animate, his mind flashes back to the climax of Ir'Zathyran's "test": the horde of ghouls that nearly killed him and his friends. Every now and then, he still has nightmares about the ghoul that hungrily ripped a piece of flesh from his shoulder. And they were commanded by Histra. He says in a hushed voice, "Ghouls. Sahuagin ghouls. Fabulous." He pulls out his dagger and glares venomously at the closest creature approaching Adamant's left side. "Indeed, I won't ignore a friend... and on my wrath he can depend!" He launches a blast of red-and-silver-energy at the creature. ________________________________________________ Minor: Draw weapon. Minor: Inflict Warlock's Curse on the closest creature to Adamant's left side (i.e., eastern side), which is probably the same one that Condign is rushing toward. Standard: Attack that same creature with eldritch blast vs. Reflex: 1d20+7=18. Damage: 1d10+4=6, plus 1d6=2 = total 8 damage

Kal spares a quick glance for Shorak, then glares at the animated dead as he draws Skyfang. "There is no ceremony to be recognized here," he says angrily as electricity streaks across the dagger's blade. "Try to cluster them together. Don't let them surround Adamant." _____________ Kal will use Lightning Orb on whichever of the sahuagin Belarin is attacking.
Lightning Orb vs. Reflex (1d20+8=11)
Sheesh. Even the undead have better reflexes than that.
So if you guys have powers that can move enemies around, see if you can get them clustered together, but not next to Adamant. Kal's got lots of powers that are good against groups of enemies.

Streko grabs the Crescent of Therendor from his handy haversack, takes a deep breath, and swims as quickly as he can toward Adamant. ____________________________________________________ Minor Action: Streko pulls Therendor from his haversack prior to leaving the bubble.

29 = Shorak 21 = Streko 17 = Bad fish 16 = Hras'Ka's crew_______________ Shorak's bolt clicks through the water and sinks into the throat of the dead sahuagin nearest to Adamant. It clutches at the devastating wound, but no sound of pain issues from its throat. Streko is the next to move, drawing out his sickle and jumping out of the bubble. He moves faster than expected, swimming deftly through the water and more than halving the distance to Adamant. The creatures burst into motion, moving more swiftly than most corpselike foes do. While not exactly graceful, they move with the fluid and frightening speed of ghouls. And this does remind most of you of the tomb in the City of the Dead. A word comes to mind: lacedon. Ghouls that lair and hunt in water—and clearly, not all ghouls are everyday humanoids of the surface world. Two of the creatures rush at Adamant. Though he is perfectly still, his hand still pressed onto the chest, only one of them manages to do any damage to him. It rends at his wooden flesh and grabs at him...almost looking like it's not sure what's it's supposed to do with him. Another two lacedons surge toward the bubble. Hras'Ka fends off one creature, while Belarin sees the other going after him. He readies a spell, but isn't fast enough! The putrid sahuagin slashes dripping, slime-covered arms through the edge of the bubble and its claws drag across his chest, tearing deep into flesh and spilling a shocking amount of blood. Worse, the claws hook into him, keeping him in its grasp. Meanwhile, its stench rolls over him like an avalanche of liquid filth—it combines the worst of rotted flesh and dead fish. The remaining two lacedons surge in at Streko, instantly flanking him. Although he dodges the reach of the first, the second grabs him from behind, claws tearing at his neck and shoulders, trying to rend open his chainmail. Several hooklike fingers dig into the meat of his shoulder, instantly clouding the water around him with his own blood. Streko gasps from the unexpected amount of pain, and finds himself struggling to keep his own breath! Hras'Ka and one of his sahuagin battles the lacedon that attacked Hras'Ka. Meanwhile, the shaman swims over to the edge of the bubble near Kal. He shrieks something in his language and a shard of water, much resembling ice, forms in his claw. He hurls it at the lacedon that's latched onto Belarin. The shard skims across its back but doesn't do enough damage to even warrants its notice. The shard dissolves again into water. • Shorak's sly flourish (w/ +2 first strike) hits the dead sahuagin / 20 damage to sahuagin • Lacedon #2 and #3 attack Adamant (27 and 18) / 12 damage to Adamant and lacedon #2 has grabbed Adamant. • Lacedon #5 attacks Hra's Ka and misses. • Lacedon #6's attack vs. Belarin's AC: 32 (critical hit) / 19 damage to Belarin, and lacedon #6 has grabbed Belarin. • Lacedon #1's attack vs. Streko's AC: 15 (miss) • Lacedon #4's attack vs. Streko's AC: 32 (critical hit) / 19 damage to Streko, and lacedon #4 has grabbed Streko. • Streko's Endurance check (1d20+5=11) (failure) / Streko loses a healing surge. • Shaman's attack vs. lacedon #6's AC: 20 (miss) Refresh the page. _________________________ Since the lacedons are now in all different positions and two of you are grabbed, I'm halting the round here to see if you want to do anything differently. If you change your attack type, keep the same roll you already made.
Ken and Joe, take note: Belarin and Streko are currently grabbed by a lacedon. If they end their next turn and they haven't broken free, they'll automatically lose a healing surge from it.
A reminder, to escape from a grab:
ESCAPE: MOVE ACTION ✦ Acrobatics or Athletics: Make an Acrobatics check vs. Reflex or an Athletics check vs. Fortitude against the creature or effect that immobilized you. Success: You end the grab and can shift as part of this move action. Failure: You’re still grabbed.
I'll include Adamant's "actions" in my rest-of-the-round post.

Crap, I knew I should have stepped back. Definitely fast little buggers.Belarin struggles to avoid panicking as the undead sahuagin rips into him and pulls him toward its razor-sharp teeth. It's just like before! No, I won't let it happen! Try as he might, though, he can't escape the grasp of its claws. Fear yields to rage, then, as he glares at the fiend and blurts out, "Ugly sight, your mind ignite!" ___________________________ Move: Acrobatics check to escape (1d20+6=8). Forget that. Minor: Curse the lacedon. It'll take 1 point of damage each time it makes an attack against Belarin (successful or not, I believe), thanks to the pact dagger. Standard: Attack the lacedon with eyebite vs. Will. This will draw an opportunity attack. Prime Shot applies. 1d20+8=13. Feh. Well, I'm lunch. That's four bad rolls in a row.

15 = Belarin 13 = Condign 7 = Kal_______________ Adamant angles his charge towards the children and their camp. Almost immediately, he hears an exclamation behind him from his squad. "What the hell are you doing!?" Several of the warforged running with him have veered off to keep pace with Adamant. His group is divided now, and on the battlefield, he knows this weakens them. "Soldier!" he hears the colonel calling out, along with the thunder of hooves. "Hold to your orders! Take the bloody tower!"
The children, about fifty feet away, hear Adamant and whirl around to see the titan closing in! Adamant sees a few of their trappings lying around the camp. There's a shield, even a banner lying on the ground. They look to be Thranish.Belarin struggles to free himself from the lacedon's embrace, but succeeds only in cursing the creature. Though Belarin doesn't know the name of this former sahuagin, somehow its identity is now being discussed in scathing terms by the voices in the back of the human's head... It's little relief to Belarin, though. Even though he's still in the breathable air, the lacedon's filthy presence has him gasping for air as if he were submerged. Condign, refusing to allow Belarin to face his foe alone, storms over and throws a seemingly brash swing. His broadsword crackes through its scales, sinks into softer flesh beneath, but it draws the creature's immediate ire. It swipes back at him, and tears a deep gash in the tiefling's arm right at the gap in his armor at the elbow. But the lacedon lets its own guard down— And Shorak sees an opening. He lifts his crossbow and looses another bolt—which buries itself in one of the lacedon's eyes. Its head jerks back as slime clouds the water. The creature convulses, but clings tenaciously to its unlife. Kal takes advantage of the chaos and moves back away from the lacedon, then throws an orb of lightning—but it misses and dissipates in the water. • Belarin fails to escape the grab. • Belarin curses lacedon #6. Belarin's eyebite misses the lacedon. • Belarin loses a healing surge. • Condign's brash assault hits lacedon #6 / 13 damage to lacedon #6 • Lacedon #6 is bloodied. • Lacedon's basic melee attack vs. Condign's AC: 30 +2 (combat advantage) (hit) / 7 damage to Condign • Shorak's free attack (from Condign's brash assault) vs. lacedon #6's AC: 1d20+11+2 (combat advantage)=33 (critical) / 26 damage to lacedon #6 Refresh the page. ______________________ To take advantage of Condign's action, I'm ruling that Shorak reloaded his crossbow during the move action he didn't take. That way he could shoot a bolt with the freebie action Condign gave him.

Seeing the undead creature still holding Belarin in it's grasp, Shorak lets fly with another bolt from his hand crossbow. He grimaces as it goes wide of the mark. Sly Flourish (1d20+9=16)Jeff - Drawing and loading a hand crossbow is a free action. Just so ya know. At least, that's what the PHB4E says.

No worries...just checking.Streko feels the talons digging into his flesh, rending, grasping, tearing. He opens his mouth instinctively to scream, feels water invade the open cavity, begins feeling panic, fear, terror. Streko turns his body, rolling it towards the Sahuagin that is grasping his ankly. The sudden movement causes the Sahuagin's grip to loosen just enough for Streko to kick with his other foot, pushing him away from his two undead foes. The halfling then pulls his arms to his side and immediately spreads them out again, the openness encompassing the two Sahuagin ghouls, Lacedons a voice inside his mind whispers. In that mind, the blinding, glorious image of Streko's beloved Goddess, Olladra, reaches out to him and appears to blow him a kiss. He feels the warmth, the power, fill his every being with an energy that he knows he can't, nor wishes to, contain. The energy erupts from his holy symbol and pulses over the nearby Sahuagin, striking them with unerring accuracy and rage. ____________________________________________________ MINOR ACTION: Streko escapes target's grasp. Acrobatics roll:1d20+9=26
STANDARD ACTION: Streko casts TURN UNDEAD.
Attack: 1d20+8=21
HIT: 2d10+6=21 damage to target previously holding Streko's leg. Target is pushed back 5 spaces and immobilized until the end of Streko's next turn.

29 = Shorak 21 = Streko 17 = Bad fish_______________ Another of Shorak's quarrels slashes the water, but it goes wide. With a surprisingly brief struggle, Streko slips free from the lacedon's grasp. To his nearest companions, his obvious terror is yet overcome by valor: without even trying to flee, he touches his hand to his holy symbol and there is a flare of white holy fire which suddenly lights up the battlefield in a flash. When it fades out, you can see the two that were immediately surrounding Streko tumbling end over end through the water, twenty five feet in a different direction, each one burned by the attack. Even when they stop moving, they writhe and tread water, unable to swim and continue their attacks for a precious few moments. One of the creatures by Adamant cowers under Streko's prayer, but it isn't pushed by the force. Still caught by the lacedon's hooks, Belarin feels another surge of panic as the creature opens its razor-sharp, vile-smelling maw. The crossbow bolts lodged in its eye and neck seem paltry compared to its undead hunger: Its head lashes out like a striking eel and closes its mouth over one of Belarin's shoulders, biting deep, severing nerves and veins. The human screams. He can even feel the ghoul's tongue lashing against his ravaged flesh, lapping at the wound. Belarin's world begins to spin as he feels his lifeblood slipping away in streams.The two attacking Adamant continue to do so. Nicely done, Joe! Upon escaping the grab, I had Streko shift 1 square south, since that allows him to reach one of Adamant's foe's with his turn undead. Streko's original point was to go to Adamant's rescue, right? Also, when you make burst or blast attacks, you get to make a separate attack roll for each target. I've done for turn undead.
Reminder: lacedons #1 and #4 are immobilized for this round (until after Streko goes again), so they can't actually reach any of you or go anywhere.

Pleased with his blow to the lacedon, Condign’s pleasure quickly fades as his friend is struck again. Belarin’s face pales; his eyes lose their focus. He looks like he won’t survive another hit. “Rhyme and rhythm make you stronger,” he shouts to the warlock. “Snap out of it or you won’t live much longer!” Then, turning to the lacedon, the tiefling calls upon all the strength he has left. Bringing his broadsword around in a wide arc, he strikes a blow at the neck of the creature, hoping to sever its ugly head from its body. ____________________________________ Movement Action: None Minor Action: Use Shake It Off on Belarin. Standard Action: Use Stand The Fallen on lacedon #6
Attack Roll vs AC: (1d20+12=32)
Damage: 35 + Sword Crit Damage: (2d6=2) + Flame Bracer Crit Fire Damage: (1d6=3) for 40 points of damage total. Can you say sushi?
Belarin gets a saving throw to end his daze with a +3 modifier to the roll.
Everyone within 10 squares can spend a healing surge and gain an additional 3 hp.

Belarin feels his life fading away... then suddenly the voices in his head begin a mocking chant, The-demon-is-a'rhyming! The demon-is-a'rhyming! His attention gains arrowtip sharpness as he hears Condign's commanding voice... and witnesses his attacker being sliced and scorched by the tiefling's massive attack! Still bleeding badly, Belarin nevertheless uses his arcane link with whatever passed for the undead's life force to vanish into the shadows and instantly appear on the other side of Kalarian. More shadows leap protectively around the warlock. "Thank you, my friend!" he calls to Condign in a shaky but still strong voice, followed by a softer "Trochaic tetrameter, no less. Heh. Impressive. You have poten--..." He stops himself short, then he extends a bloody, dagger-wielding arm toward one of the lacedons that appears to have been buffeted by Streko's radiant attack but hasn't budged from its attack on Adamant. "You may be spry, but ..." He abandons the rhyme halfway, knowing that the invocation will fail. Clearly, he's still disoriented from the attack. With a grunt of pain, he then retreats to a spot between Shorak and Kal and away from the bubble's edge, and he glares balefully at the ghoul that is engaged with Hras'Ka. _____________________________________ Belarin delays initiative until after Condign's turn. (Thanks, Brian! Phew!) Belarin happily uses a healing surge with the +3 bonus. Assuming that the cursed Lacedon #6 is toast (since it took more damage after being bloodied than before), Belarin immediately teleports 3 squares and appears 1 square west of Kal. He's taking the "long way" in order to gain Shadow Walk. Belarin has concealment. Save vs. dazed condition: 1d20+3=22. Success. Standard: Attack Lacedon #2 with eyebite vs. Will. 1d20+7=11. Forget it. Move: Shift 1 square northeast to be between Kal and Shorak. Minor: Curse the closest enemy, which should be #5.

Adamant continues to move to intercept the Titan. He calls back to the officer, "Yes sir, but there is a warforged Titan moving on our flank. We can not secure the tower without challenging it."
Noticing the squad mates following him, Adamant calls to them next, "I said you should go take the tower... Without even taking a conscious thought on the matter, Streko feels his holy symbol flare quickly, brightly and some of the pain from the Sahuagin attack vanishes. WITH a conscious thought, Streko screams out a prayer to Olladra in his thoughts, hoping those prayers will still be heard. He points at the Sahuagin nearest to him (S2) and feels Olladra's power burn from the tip of his finger and streak out at the creature, sizzling its undead flesh with holy radiance. ____________________________________________________ Streko spends a Healing Surge. 13 total points (10+3) restored to Streko.
STANDARD ACTION. Streko casts LANCE OF FAITH at S2.
HIT: 1d20+6=22
Adamant is Streko's only ally in his field of vision, and thus, he gains a +2 power bonus to his attack against S2, should he do so.
DAMAGE: 1d8+6=10[/url damage to S2.
Streko moves closer to Adamant, aware that his survival time is quickly running out.

16 = Hras'Ka's crew 15 = Belarin (delays) 13 = Condign 12 = Belarin 7 = Kal_______________ "Insubordinate fool!" Adamant hears the colonel call out to him, his voice managing to cut through the rumble of their charge. "I'll have your head!" Several of the warforged who run with him keep pace, ignoring the commander.
Adamant nears the camp. The children do start to scatter, each going a different direction away from the warforged titan. But one, a girl of perhaps ten, stumbles to the ground in her panic. The titan looms over her and issues a booming sound, a voice without words, but it sounds triumphant. It raises its stone hammer-hand high, its large gemstone eyes flashing green.
Adamant is almost there, ready to intercede, hoping he isn't too late. And then he sees, as clear as day: upon the titan's massive chestplate is the royal crest of Cyre. At its feet, the Thrane girl screams, too terrified to even try to climb to her feet again.
A memory comes to Adamant's mind, vaguely, like a half-remembered dream. A memory of when he once watched as a self-righteous knight of the Silver Flame, a Thrane templar, cut down a soldier of Cyre, a valorous young recruit, a girl of eighteen. The templar first shot her in the chest with an arrow, marched over to where she'd fallen, gasping for breath as her lungs flooded with blood, then slashed her throat open with his sword. Stood silent as she convulsed and died. It had been her first and last battle.
This would be, perhaps, justice.
Adamant is close enough to grab the girl, or strike the titan.Hras'Ka and one of his fellows stab at the lacedon between them, but the creature is too swift for either of them; but at least they're keeping that one occupied. The shaman throws another watery bolt, this time at one of the lacedons affected by Streko's prayer, but he misses. The shaman spews a curse, invoking the Devourer. Condign sees Belarin's peril, sees the lacedon's unrelenting hunger, and sees exactly what he must do. He swipes at it in a feint, drawing it claws down to parry, then spins his body in a complete circuit, raising his blade for a higher cut. The sahuagin ghoul tries to block it, but Condign's broadsword refuses to stop: it lops off the creature's hand, then passes on through to its neck—and keeps going, trailing a sudden fire. Even through the water, the lacedon's head is sent floating away with a sickening crack! Its body slackens and starts to sink downward, releasing Belarin in true death. Still hurting but pulled back from the edge of death, Belarin feels relief flood through him as he rides the fey mist to reappear beside Kal. He looses a spell, but quiets when it fizzles away. • Hras'Ka's attack vs. lacedon #5's AC: 12 +2 (flanking) = 14 (miss) • Sahuagin's attack vs. lacedon #5's AC: 14 +2 (flanking) = 16 (miss) • Sahuagin shaman's attack vs. lacedon #2's AC: 16 (miss) • Condign uses shake it off / Belarin saves and is no longer dazed • Conidgn's stand the fallen hits lacedon #6 • Lacedon #6 is slain. • Each ally heals 3 hit points and may spend a healing surge. • Belarin spends a healing surge and heals 11 hit points. • Adamant spends a healing surge and heals 14 hit points. • Streko spends a healing surge and heals 12 hit points. • Belarin teleports 3 squares. • Belarin's eyebite misses lacedon #2.
Refresh the page. ______________________ Dave W., have Adamant make a Wisdom check. Wisdom modifier + half his level. If he rolls high enough, he'll be able to realize this is a vision he's experiencing and not reality. Either way, his decision matters.
Joe, this is the second half of round 2. Streko's actions will be for the first half of round 3, coming up.

Well, forget everything I said in the Q&A thread. My entire plan was based on being able to swim to my first target, and once again, the dice roller let's me down with this....
Athletic Check - Swimming (DC10) (1d20+8=9)Kal smiles as he formulates a plan. He begins to push forward to swim through the water, but the currents are too strong for him and he is pushed back into the bubble. Growling with frustration, he flicks his wrist towards the ghouls attacking Adamant, releasing an orb of electricity at them. _____________________ So I guess Kal WON'T move..... Adamant rushes towards the fallen girl and the looming Titan. Adamant notes the Titan's crest and faces the shadow of memory. This would be, perhaps, justice. The logic, the balance of it is unmistakeable. A girl's life for a girl's life? But no, one girl was a solider; she did a soldier's duty. This girl would die for nothing noble. How can it be wrong to defend the defenseless? Though, the warforged spares a thought for the colonel's screaming as well as the titan's power, I may pay dearly for this.
He snatches the back of the girl's collar with the three fingers of his left hand and pulls her up and swings her behind him in one strong motion.
"Titan! Why do you waste your time with children? There!" Adamant points with his spear, "There are Thrane soldiers about to do battle with your brothers! If they take that tower we are in danger here. Go! There is our FIGHT!"
Adamant stands between the Titan and the girl staring up at the eye gems some 5 or 6 feet above him. He plants the spear's butt forcefully in the ground and now points with his left hand to the tower. --------------- Wisdom check (1d20+6=10) That's not terribly impressive... I'm guessing it's still pretty real for Adamant!
Doing the right thing always matters, Jeff.
So, Adamant will be Adamant...

_____________Though Kal finds himself unprepared for the swim, his spell hits its target head on. The lacedon writhes beneath the lightning's embrace, too stunned to avoid it. Adamant grabs the girl and forces her, screaming in fright, behind him. In the distance, Adamant can see that the Thranes are reaching the tower first. Battle is joined, and men on both sides begin to fall.
The warforged titan pauses, as if to consider Adamant's words. But it, unlike its smaller cousin, is not disobedient to its orders—whatever they may be. A strange, metallic snarl sounds from its faceplate where a mouth would be, and it raises its hammer down to attack him.
Adamant hears a new voice, a human male's, this one spoken quietly but somehow louder than the world around him, louder than the distant shouts of battle.
You are disobedient. A failed soldier. But you are a true Cyran.
For one brief moment, as the massive stone hammer hits him head on and smashes him into the ground—a forceful, but painless crunch!—Adamant sees a vision of the speaker: a middle-aged, war-weary man, dressed in the uniform of a field artificer, replete with rods and devices of power and repair. The sort of man Adamant's seen many times before. The sort who used to mend his wounds so he could keep on fighting. Then the man vanishes like the ghost he is. Adamant is left lying, badly smashed on the ground, while the girl runs off without a word of thanks.
Then the entire scene washes away in a flood of seawater. Adamant's memory of where he really is returns. He understands that he'd fallen into the chest's "trap," and its locking mechanism: a potent artificer's infusion designed to judge him. And it makes sense now: the battlefield scenario was too generic, without much explanation or context. It sure seemed real. Adamant wonders if it's similar to a predicament the artificer once experienced; there was a sadness in it.
Then he sees a translucent, glowing matrix of light surrounding the chest. It vanishes and he hears an audible click as the chest unlocks!
But this realization, as his realities shift back to normal, has left him disoriented. He's just now becoming aware of two slimy, dead sahuagin around him, attacking! And his companions are fighting, too, still in the bubble.• Kal's lightning orb hits lacedon #2 / 15 lightning damage to lacedon #2 • Adamant's Wisdom check: 10 (failure) • Adamant is immobilized (save ends). ____________________ In addition to being immobilized, for round 3, Adamant may only do a full defense action. He may speak but not otherwise act. This is him throwing off the disorienting effects of the trap. Beginning in round 4, he may act normally but he still needs to shrug off being immobilized if he wishes to move anywhere. So next up for round 3: 29 = Shorak 21 = Streko 17 = Bad fish[/color]
