Btw, I'm in favor of at least some of the group getting a long rest. If vamps intend to attack it would probably be tonight, it would be nice to have some dailies to toss about.
But I would like at least one of us awake and preferably above deck just in case. Adamant's a good choice for that; he needs less sleep so it will be before midnight when he'll be back up to full.
There should be a quieter day sometime in the journey to get back to a regular sleep pattern.

Shorak might be a better choice for guard duty, he only used about half his powers and after getting healed during the battle, doesn't have a scratch on him. Plus, I'm pretty sure he only used one daily power during the fight, so he probably can forego an extended rest if need be.

Jeff:
Well, I didn't want to be the dweeb sleeping the day away. But I have no problems with waking up later that night and standing watch.
Of course, if I don't have to burn healing surges, I won't.

Is Sem ignoring Kal?
I think we could probably sleep now and be ready for a night attack. Maybe stand watches through the night and let everyone else rest on a rotation so that we can then get back to a normal schedule?

Technically, each use requires a short (5 minute) rest in between. But if you've got lots of time, it's easy enough, yes. I don't want to appear difficult (another of my favorite sentence structures) but the language of the rules on both page 263 and 293 is: "After a short rest, you can spend as many healing surges as you like outside combat." Its not "after a short rest you can spend one healing surge"; it's as many as you like until you run out.

Hey Jeff, Exactly how much time has passed now since our characters have returned to the Patriot? I was going to have Syrdan go down and check on Lerrhana after he'd rested and healed up a little - but if he's only been resting for less than an hour, story-wise, that seems sort of dumb. So knowing the relative time would be a big help for the next post.

You mean the Merrow. The Patriot's the Karrnathi ship where everyone got beat up. It's been less than an hour, definitely.

Unless you expect an attack by day, there's really no reason everyone can't take their extended rest at the same time. For one, Adamant only needs 4 hours (while everyone else needs 6), and even while resting, he remains alert. The end of the extended rest puts you in the early evening.

My point was that we would essentially do two extended rests, because otherwise we would be up in the middle of the night, and then have to go a day and a half before resting again in order to be back sleeping at night again.

Don't confuse rest with sleep. You can do an extended rest and still sleep normal at night (if you choose). All you need to do is have one day of normality to sync up sleep and rest again.

Wow, Belarin didn't even make the first move this time. I can picture Belarin and Histra in the Eberron remake of "Mr. & Mrs. Smith."

That reminds me of a scene from the second Addams Family movie, as Gomez and Morticia look down upon their newborn son.
GOMEZ (gleeful): "Look... he has my father's eyes." MORTICIA (playfully slapping his arm): "Oh, Gomez... put those back!"

I'm modifying my post regarding the Blood of Vol presence in Xen'drik. It seems I was lacking some information that Shorak should have been privy to.

BTW, started writing a quick post, but then just noticed you put up a lengthy one for Sem, Jeff ... which rendered my original post moot.
Need to digest Sem's words ... will have a different postup later today.

MORTICIA (playfully slapping his arm): "Oh, Gomez... put those back!" Actually, Morticia's line is even better than that! MORTICIA: Gomez, take those out of his mouth. Both of those movies were fantastic. [about to bury two people]PUGSLEY: Are they dead? WEDNESDAY: Does it matter?

Mike, thanks for the correction! (I should've looked up the quote on IMDB first!)
Yep, terrific movies. I'll always love the TV series, but Raul Julia's Gomez was a demented joy.

Yep. Raul Julia was great as Gomez, Angelica Huston was a fantastic Morticia ... and Christina Ricci was a perfect Wednesday.
I'm partial to the Addams Family in all forms of media, but both movies are still favorites of mine. ;D

Who doesn't love musicals? Whenever my friends and I play the "if you only had one wish" game, I always go with "that the world was a musical, with people breaking into song and dance."
I have very generous and patient friends....
