Shorak's boomerang nearly takes the head off the zombie, and it's left hanging by skin only. Yet the creature keeps moving, now stepping further beside Melethos and lunging at Belarin. The warlock takes a minor scrape only of jagged bones jutting from one arm. The other, which Shorak just moved away from, presses on after him. The other zombies—and fortunately they remain few, as you have seen no others emerging from the deck below—advance quickly. Relwalyn, who has moved to intercept some, has somehow drawn two of them toward her. You can't tell if there is battle there. The zombie ogre stomps viciously forward, and though its loose, rotting skins are sent flapping in Calirataia's wind wall, it does not stop its advance—nor the human-sized corpse beside it. Adamant sees he is the ogre's target. It swings its club faster than he'd expect, and takes a glancing blow off one shoulder, but the next swing of its bone club hits the deck loudly instead. Histra is scraped by the next zombie, but seems unafraid nor very injured. Seeing the new situation, Calirataia speaks the words of her spell again and a second wind wall appears. This time it washes right across the ogre zombie and the smaller beside the winds pound them like hammers! But more important, you can see that the dryad has placed a section of the new wall just beside Shorak, Streko, and Adamant, preventing the spreading vapors of the dragon skull from passing through! The wraith, however, passes easily through the wind on its side and attacks the next zombie from behind. Shadowy limbs seem to drain the undead strength of the creature, though it does not yet wither away. But Histra conjures her own spectral claw which, upon passing through the zombie, sucks the last magic animating. It crumbles. • Zombies move. • Zombie's attacks vs. Histra: 11 (miss), 17 (hit) / 5 slashing damage to Histra • Ogre zombie's attacks vs. Adamant: 24 (hit), 13 (miss) / 8 bludgeoning damage to Adamant • Zombie's attacks vs. Shorak: 11, 21 (hit) / 7 slashing damage to Shorak (Uncanny Dodge halves it to 3) • Zombie's attacks vs. Belarin: 10; 25 (miss), 18; 24 (hit) / 8 slashing damage to Belarin • Calirataia casts Wind Wall again. → Zombie's Strength saving throw vs. Wind Wall: 13 (failure) / 13 bludgeoning damage to zombie → Ogre zombie's Strength saving throw vs. Wind Wall: 14 (failure) / 13 bludgeoning damage to ogre zombie • Wraith's attack vs. zombie: 25 (hit) / 17 necrotic damage to zombie adjacent to Histra • Histra's disadvantaged spell-attack vs. zombie: 23; 22 (hit) / 12 necrotic damage • Zombie is destroyed

Belarin had a rhyme on his lips, but seeing that Calirataia has countered - for the moment - the threat of the green fumes, he turns his attention to the zombie in front of him. The warlock slashes at it with his pact dagger, the blade leaving a trail of green flame in its arc. ___________________ Belarin attacks the zombie to his southwest with green-flame blade. Melee attack: 1d20(3) + 9 = 12. Ugh. I'll roll damage anyway. Damage: 1d4(4) + 5 = 9 slashing and 2d8(4,5) = 9 fire.

Adamant tries to keep his focus on the gaunt but it remains too far above. In any case the ogre demands his attention. He stands his ground and strikes back. "Oh, well done Calirataia!" He replies when the second wall of wind goes up.

Belarin's blade cuts easily through the zombie's body, and the smell of both freshly slice rotted flesh and singed flesh is his only immediate reward. The zombie keeps going. Adamant's glaive, likewise, carves slashes open the ogre's corpse, revealing a massive ribcage barely holding in half liquefied organs, which ooze around them and spatter the ground. The monster's face gives no reaction for the gutting. Round 2:

Kal considers the battlefield. The formation they have created has left little room for them to maneuver, but has also forced their enemies to attack where his companions are strongest. He turns to look over his shoulder and finds himself bumping into Histra, unable to get to the skull or the fiend. He flicks his staff towards the ogre, a bolt of fire emerging from the end and streaking past Histra's head. "Histra, I have an idea. Command your wraith to move out of the way. I think I can trap the ogre between Cali's wall and my own." _______________________ Basically, I think Kal could drop a Wall of Fire behind the ogre and trap it between that and the wind wall, putting the fiend in a similar spot, but Histra's wraith is right on that line and I don't want to drop it there this turn for fear of hitting the wraith.
Meanwhile, Kal will cast Fire Bolt on the ogre.
Roll was a 10, so I won't bother with damage.
EDIT: Rolled damage. It's a 6. Because of course it is. Why would a 3d10 result in anything higher than a 6? Thanks, dice roller....

Hey now. You thought you missed a moment ago. Kal's fire scorches the ogre, but it barely notices. The gaunt's vast wings turn and it punches through one of the big tears in the nearest sail, as it spirals downward, around the mast, to hover for a moment behind the zombie ogre. Its feet are still fifteen feet off the ground, and its barbed tail whips violently around as if waiting for it to choose a victim. You mark that the fiend has moved beyond the two wind walls: while spells can pass through them easily, it seems evident that arrows, bolts, and even boomerangs will go astray if shot through them. The gaunt moves and Dashes (flying). Note the black outline around the gaunt, so you can see which squares it occupies (9 squares), and that it is fifteen feet above the deck currently.

Streko watches the ogre's insides flow out and smack against the ground in front of it, just as the Gaunt suddenly appears directly behind it. "May Olldara favor the foolish and grant our enemies burn!" he says out loud, calling upon her Divine favor. He reaches up and acts as if he is grasping something slid before dropping his arm once more. Suddenly, a column of holy fire rains down from heaven directly between the undead ogre and the Gaunt. Backhandedly, Streko's arm points at the zombie harassing Shorak. The spectral sickle attacks! ________________________________________________________ Streko casts Flame Strike, creating a 10 foot column, 40' high, of divine fire, which should hit both ogre and Gaunt, depending upon dexterity saves.

Melethos watches the gaunt spiral downward and halt behind the ogre zombie, hovering just above its shoulder. The fiend’s utter silence unnerves him; accustomed to the chaos of battle, he’s never encountered something that big making absolutely no sound. It’s unnatural. Then he notices the ogre zombie and the gaunt have an open path to reach Calirataia and his breath catches in his throat. He will not risk the dryad again. He slips past Kalarian and Histra, knowing he is leaving himself vulnerable to an attack by the zombie next to him, and wedges himself between Adamant and Histra. His body now stands between Calirataia and their foes. The ogre zombie looms before him. He draws an arcane symbol in the air with his finger, leaving a faint reddish glow momentarily behind in the air, and speaks words of power. Enough magic, he thinks and draws his sword. Time to lay down the hurt. His sword flashes through the air, biting into the ogre zombie. He then follows up with another sword strike, and another, and another. Chunks of bloodless flesh fall to the deck. The tiefling does as he had hoped. He lays down the hurt. _____________________________________ Movement Action: Melethos moves two squares north (difficult terrain going through allies) and one square west, for a total of 25 feet.Bonus Action: Melethos casts Hex on the ogre zombie. It now takes an extra 1d6 necrotic damage on any hit and it has disadvantage on Strength checks.

Melethos uses his fighter class feature Action Surge to attack again.
Melethos attacks twice with is sword. Melethos: repeat 2D20+9+ 1D4 → 21; 14(10 + 9 + 2);(2 + 9 + 3)#second attacks against the ogre zombie from Action Surge Narrowly avoided a miss there! Melethos: repeat 2D8+5+ 1D6 → 9; 12(2 + 5 + 2);(6 + 5 + 1)#damage from second attacks That’s 18 slashing damage and 3 necrotic damage.
Total damage equals 37 slashing damage and 12 necrotic damage for a total of 49 points. Fun fact: I calculated the median damage overall from Mel’s attacks and it came to 48. The real results were pretty damn close to the average results.

Streko's spell comes roaring down, blasting his two largest foes with magical and holy fire. When the column recedes, the ogre is a flaming ruin...remarkably, disturbingly still moving, but devastated and almost unrecognizable as humanoid! The gaunt, meanwhile, looks unharmed but the shaking of its limbs and wings suggests it has just experienced real pain. Snick goes the sickle, lopping off one of its target's arms. When Melethos attacks the ogre, he has to to fight throug the pushing at him, but it's not enough to stop his sword arm. His foe is blasted beyond recognition, but the animated skeleton and scorched flesh is still dangerous. He carves into it with fervor, and after multiple strikes . . . he feels an inner warmth inside, a fire that's becoming more familiar to him now: the gratification when an enemy is utterly destroyed. The long-dead ogre's corpse peels over with a sickening thud, limbs hacked apart. Adamant catches the elation in his tiefling friend's face in the moment and cannot help but worry; a distant worry, given the circumstances. But there is no question to the paladin's sensibilities, Melethos revels in violence for its own sake . . . increasingly so. → Gaunt's advantaged Dex saving throw vs. Flamestrike: 6; 21 (success, half damage) / 7 fire and 8 radiant damage to gaunt → Ogre zombie's Dex saving throw vs. Flamestrike: 15 (failure) / 14 fire and 17 radiant damage to ogre zombie → Zombie's opp attack vs. Melethos: 23 (hit) / 5 slashing damage to Melethos • Ogre zombie takes 49 damage from Melethos's attacks → Ogre zombie's Undead Fortutide Con saving throw: 11 (failure) ◘ Ogre zombie is destroyed.
Nicely done, guys. Joe, now that's some 10th-level cleric action; nice combo with the sickle, too; I enjoyed that it was like a quick afterthought. And Brian, Mel's followup attack brought the ogre to 0 hit points, literally to the hit point.

"If this works, Belarin, you should be able to easily take this zombie down." Shorak says to the warlock as he releases all but one end of the rope of entanglement and calls out, "Arrest!" as he flicks the rope towards the zombie directly in front of him.
Shorak uses the rope of entanglement on the zombie one square south of him. Dex save DC 15 or be restrained. If the zombie fails its save, everyone gets advantaged attacks on it while it remains restrained.

The zombie that dared strike Melethos just sort of sinks to the deck, fully alight, and it moves no more. Shorak casts the rope at his opponent, and it springs away from him on its own volition and twines itself rapidly around the zombie. The creature gives no reaction, but it soon hopelessly entangled. It struggles to free itself in vain, the mindless creature not seeming to know how go about it except with sheer strength. It isn't enough. None of you can see precisely what's happening beyond the gaunt, for there are at least two zombies that Relwalyn has intercepted. Given the flickers of movement, you can only suspect there is some kind of battle there. → Zombie's Dexterity saving throw vs. Hellish Rebuke: 3 (failure) / 19 fire damage ◘ Zombie is destroyed. → Zombie's Dexterity saving throw vs. Rope of Entanglement: 1 (failure) / zombie is restrained • Zombie's Strength check to escape Rope: 5 (failure)

"NO PRESSURE!" yells Belarin in response to Shorak. With one zombie now entangled and the other incinerated ( Did Melethos do that? he thinks), he steps back to give himself room to unleash his full eldritch might. "Smelly and crude, give the fish some food!" He unleashes a devastating series of arcane strikes from his outstretched arm. ____________________________ Belarin moves 5 feet to port. The entangled zombie still gets an Opportunity attack, though at disadvantage. Belarin attacks with eldritch blast three times, all at advantage (Thanks, Dave!). Best of each pair: 20, 18, and 24. Three hits. Damage for all three attacks: 3d10 + (4 x 3) = 33 points of force damage.

Belarin's blast obliterates the zombie. Collapsing on itself, Shorak's enchanted rope actually simply slips itself free and lies still again.
Histra casts a spell, hurling an emerald green sphere through the walls of air just above Melethos: when it hits the gaunt on one arm, it explodes in a shower of acid! The creature is swift, shaking off the worst of it but you can now see a discoloring of its skin.
Calirataia conjures and hurls a small ball of flame, but misses.
→ Zombie opp attack vs. Belarin: 9, 16 (miss) • Zombie is destroyed by Belarin's attack • Histra casts Vitriolic Sphere. → Gaunt's advantaged Dexterity saving throw: 14, 21 (success) / 29 acid damage (halved to 14) to gaunt and no damage in the subsequent round • Calira's spell-attack (Produce Flame) vs. gaunt: 11 (miss)

Reminder: Adamant, Shorak, Melethos, Kal are blessed.
Adamant sees all the opponents in reach go down. He makes a mental note about Melethos' new-found battle lust. A small measure of his earlier frustration returns. Kal watches as his friends dispatch each of the zombies one by one. A sense of trepidation comes over him. It feels too easy, he thinks. His control over himself slips a little and Melethos hears the last part in his mind. ...too easy. Between Histra and Melethos, Kal once again flicks his wrist towards the gaunt, sending a mote of fire hurtling at the creature.

Adamant readies for a chance to reach something . . . Kal's bolt of fire hits the gaunt squarely, scorching it. The fiend, now denied some of its minions, swoops down toward all of you as if intending to barrel through you by force. It passes fearlessly through the wind walls... And Adamant's glaive is up, puncturing and slashing into the creature's chest! There is no blood, but dark fumes spray from the wounds and the creature thrashes. Angrily? Hard to say with no sound and no face. Yet the gaunt has its own purpose; its momentum curries it just above you all... → The gaunt flies fifteen feet closer and downward. → Adamant uses his reaction to Attack. • Adamant's two glaive attacks vs. gaunt: 27 (hit), 18 (hit) / 14 slashing and 7 radiant / and 5 slashing and 6 radiant damage to gaunt (32 total)Then a cloud of shadow bursts out of the fiend like an octopus spurting a cloud of ink. It envelopes everyone, blocking your sight of everything, even each other. Adamant, Kal, Shorak, and Streko push through the despair that threatens to overwhelm them. Belarin and Melethos, however, cannot, not yet. To them, the world is a place only of loss, and it may be navigable to them if they just shut some of it out...• The gaunt emits a shadowy cloud fifteen feet in all directions around it, catching everyone in its effect and forcing a Wisdom saving throw on all of you. You still have advantage on this roll (except Histra) and Adamant's aura counts for each as well:
Wisdom saving throw (with advantage, per Heroes Feast!): Adamant - 16, 18 (success) Belarin - 13, 13 (failure) Calirataia - 24, 11 (success) Histra - 13 (failure) Kal - 13, 16 (success) Melethos - 8, 9 (failure) Shorak - 17, 14 (success) Streko - 18, 27 (success)
Belarin, Histra, and Melethos effectively blinded (a psychic effect, not physical, and it's quite temporary), their minds unwilling to face reality fully. At the end of their turns, they can make another Wisdom saving throw to try and shrug off the effect. Those who can still see look up to see the gaunt swooping up and away again! It drops with its feet to the deck some distance away, just beyond where you see the ghost of Relwalyn. • The gaunt continues its move (flying). Due to its Flyby ability, it provokes no opportunity attacks when it flies out of reach. Map update coming imminently.

two comments... First, I set the glaive to Force damage so the slashing damage is actually force. Second, I'm wondering if a ready action counts as an opportunity attack for the purpose of Sentinel. If so it would set the fiend's speed to 0.
--- EDIT... one more comment... Did you include Melethos being blessed in his save? He's the only one blessed who also failed.
Okay, this may be on the edge of rules lawyering... but there's a lot to keep track of sometimes...

Sorry, yes. Force damage. Came out the same anyway! It has no resistance to any of those types.
So Sentinel didn't kick in because Adamant's reaction was used up by means of the Ready action. He couldn't make an opp attack. In theory, even if he was able to, I don't think he could. Flyby isn't Disengage, it's got its own rule and simply doesn't allow opp attacks.
No, I didn't remember the Bless, Dave. But Bless provides up to +4 at the most, right? Melethos would still fail, in this case, even if a "4" was rolled.
None of that is rules lawyering to me.

Posting a little out of turn, since Mel can't really target anything right now.Melethos curses as blackness descends upon him, robbing him of his vision. He shakes his head, unable to see where the gaunt is. He fights the despair trying to overtake him. Then an image of Jyoti rises in the darkness. Shorak blinks his eyes, happy to not be blinded again. Not to mention that feeling of despair. He doesn't want to feel that again. He raises his boomerang, waiting for the fiend or any undead to present a target. "What now? I am loathe to break our formation."
Shorak readies an attack vs. the first foe to come into range of his boomerang and clear of the wind walls.

Streko's fiery spell hurts the fiend, if barely. His spiritual sickle remains hovering in place above its inert last victim.
With no other near foes around you to distract or block you, you can see now that the ghost of Relwalyn is contenting with two zombies. She had a dagger in her hand, but her form once again appears corpselike. One of the zombies in front of her has torn into her, and the trio look like some sick parody; unliving beings playing at murder, tearing at one another.
Histra looks to Kal and Melethos. "We must press the attack, yes?"

"We must press the attack, yes?" "Yes," Melethos replies. "We press the attack. Adamant and I in the lead, Shorak bringing up the rear. The rest stay between us, keep the dryad safe." ________________________________________ I'm not really sure how to proceed, other than answer Histra, since we're still in turn-based mode.

Belarin's mind is filled with darkness, the only spots of light being people that he cares about, but all the color has been drained from their bodies and clothes. Their pale faces stare at him - Histra, Raeshara, Kal, Melethos, others - and then open their mouths in horror at something behind him. He turns around. Expecting some misshapen abomination, Belarin is surprised to see a trio of small fey creatures, like gnomes but with green skin and vestigial bat wings, their hands wielding serrated daggers. Felled by a demon's trick, mock the trio. Shake it off and get up quick!Thank you, my jabbering little friends. As his mind clears, the warlock hears more voices - the woman he loves, his friends... none of whom are giving into despair. Yes," Melethos replies. "We press the attack. " He straightens up, the blackness giving way to a red veil of rage. "You're damn right." _________________________________________ Wisdom save with advantage: 1d20 = 19, 17. Even it wasn't at advantage, that's a save!

Kal grimaces. "I don't like giving up a fortified position, but we must go where the fight is. Try to maintain formation," he says to everyone around him. "Calirataia, keep your wall pushing that mist away from us. We don't need to contend with that."
____________________ Gonna hold off on posting my actual action, but given the turn order, Kal's suggestion would be for Adamant to begin moving forward and for everyone to gradually follow him in an attempt to keep the formation as together as possible.
Can we move through the wind wall without damage, or does Cali need to drop the northern one for us to advance?

"Okay," Melethos says. "Adamant, get moving. Everyone stay close together and maintain the formation. Keep Cali in the middle."
If or when Adamant moves, Melethos will match his pace, so they approach as a pair.

Histra waits no longer, and plunges through the walls of wind. Her hair and robes are cast all about, but it does not stop her advancing. When she reaches the port-side stair, she points her wand and a beam of frost fires into the gaunt, whose sheer height keeps it a clear target. Calirataia answers Kal with, "I cannot move them, but they will keep that fog away!" She pushes through her own wind as well and sends a mote of fire at the fiend, though it goes wide. The wraith is faster than any of you, flying up against the black fiend fearlessly. As if not expecting an attack from the undead, the gaunt is taken by surprise and the wraith reaches its claws into the fiend's chest. The attack is so silent, it doesn't seem real, and yet the gaunt appears to shrink if only by degrees. Even the dead can inflict damage upon the dead. Histra calls out something in Draconic. Whether it's a call to Relwalyn or a cry of triumph for her wraith's attack, you're ont sure. "Hit fast and hard," she then screams out in Common to the rest of you. It is weakening!" • Histra moves and casts Ray of Frost. • Histra's spell-attack vs. gaunt: 21 (hit) / 11 cold damage to the gaunt and its speed is reduced by 10 feet until the start of her next turn. • Calirataia moves and casts Produce Flame. • Calirataia's spell-attack vs. gaunt: 8 (miss) • Wraith moves and attacks gaunt: 26 (critical hit) / 36 necrotic damage (halved to 18) to the gaunt
Each still moves individually, but turns are abstract anyway; you're still technically moving together.
Round 4:
23 - Shorak (Ready) 19 - undead 19 - Belarin / Histra / Calirataia 15 - Adamant 13 - Kal 12 - fiend 9 - Streko 1 - MelethosAttachments:

"Does formation mean nothing to you people?" Kal mutters as he pushes forward to move to the side of Calitaraia. "Careful, my dear. We have already risked much to recover you. We will not lose you again," he says, looking at her even as he flicks another mote of fire towards the gaunt. ____________________ Kal will move to the square just east of Cali.Kal will cast Fire Bolt on the gaunt.
Attack roll is a 9. Kal should have looked at his target and not at Calitaraia.
