Jeff, if Histra's picking up of the staff is a free action, then isn't her desire to move away from the yugoloth and out of the silence effect a Withdraw action?

No, because she wasn't using the Disengage action (I'd have said so), she was just running because she was trying to save her action for something more important (and interesting, had it occurred) once she was clear of the silence. But alas, the "dice" have levied their judgement.

Despite my wanting her to succeed in this, I try to stand by the numbers whenever I can. So I didn't retroactively decide that she Disengaged instead. Once I rolled for the yugoloth, this was going to happen. He's a bastard.

Ken, can Belarin still grab the staff? We CANNOT let the yugoloth get it back.

That's a good question, especially since Belarin and Histra went at the exact same initiative.
So, Jeff, since they went at exactly the same time, could Belarin use HIS free action to grab the staff as it falls from Histra's hands?

Sure, but only if he moves with her, to a space adjacent to where she fell (2 squares NE of her position on the current map). Technically, though, even when two characters are on the same initiative count, you'd normally resolve each character's actions before moving to the next. Even so, we can say Belarin moved a little then waited for her start moving before using his Help action.

Fair enough. The nycaloth would likewise provoke an attack from Condign if he moved away to grab the staff. Thanks.

Remember that the nycaloth occupies four squares.

Oh,, actually Adamant only gets 3 hp from Streko's healing I think. It gets halved for warforged...

I'm pretty sure Shorak used up all the potions he was carrying by the end of the last fight with Nycaloth. One during and one after.

I forgot about the fire resistance, but you're wrong about the half damage.
"Fire sprays from your hand toward one creature you're close enough to reach. The target must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw. Otherwise, the target takes 1d8 fire damage, and it can't take reactions until its next turn. A target wearing only robes or cloth (in lieu of armor) has disadvantage on the saving throw."
Oh, wait...I just read that again. The wording is confusing. I get it now. Nevermind.

Yeah, this was a sort of reimagined Shocking Grasp but (1) with fire and (2) given a saving throw rather than attack roll. Good for avoiding disadvantage issues. Except, of course, for this particular scenario.

For the Rolz rolls there is a quick way to copy the link to the roll... if you mouse-over the little square in front of the roll you made (I think it's supposed to be a d6) you'll see you can click on it. That pops up a new tab and that page has the links for you; just copy and paste. I use the one in the box labeled "Result + link BBCode".

Jeff, you never posted if Condign hit the sahuagin or if the damage was enough to destroy it. He had already hit it twice before. Also, don't forget to add the superiority die roll to Shorak's damage: a whopping 1.

It's still going. I'll let you know if it drops, or of you move outside of the zone. (It's not obvious to anyone exactly where it falls.)

But I'll add that the spell requires concentration on the part of the caster. When someone's concentrating on a spell, taking damage requires a saving throw to maintain it.

If people start dying around Adamant more often, eventually Adamant's going to be a suspect!
It's like my theory that Jessica Fletcher is a serial killer. In my house, we always called the show Murder, She Committed.

Frustrated, the undead mutant lifts his cold-dead gaze and then turns his focus upon the still-moving warforged. Grasping at Adamant's head with his claws, he manages to get a hold of the musculature of wood around the warforged’s "collarbone" and he proceeds to squeeze through them. Then, undeterred by the fact that Adamant is made of a lot of metal, the sahuagin prince lunges close and closes his mouth entirely around the paladin's head. Blinded for a moment, Admant feels his enemy's serrated teeth grinding across the dome of his head, scoring the metal and even scratching his gemstone eyes! So strong is the bite, Adamant feels genuine pain when the hinge of his jaw becomes somewhat disjointed. All still very silently. It's sort of like the tuna's revenge. This time it's the tuna who has the can opener...

As long as Histra has reclaimed her staff, then yes, she can absolutely go before Belarin.

I assume if I try the Medicine check on Streko I'm going to offer up Advantage or maybe an Opportunity attack against me.
Not sure if I need to worry about the spirits (the dark grey dots), they're adjacent to Addy now but is it true that so far they haven't appeared threatening?

Only moving out of an enemy's reach would provoke the opportunity attack, Dave. Just doing a stabilizing check wouldn't provoke.
The spirits are inscrutable. Adamant really can't deduce what's up with them just by looking.

Kal doesn't seem to be much help in the fight right now, so he'll go ahead and try to assist Tangat. I hear ya! I've been having a cold spell in this encounter... my last attack rolls have been 2, 5, 3, 4...

Shorak sees that no one is moving away from the fight, so he just shrugs and moves closer to Belarin and attacks the yugoloth once again with his trusty boomerang. He senses that it leaves his hand with confidence, flying true towards it's target. He hopes that he draws blood from the real one and not one of the illusions. Move action: Shorak moves 20 feet to the square NE of Belarin.Attack roll on the Nycaloth 1d20+8=19. Slashing damage 1d6+5=11______________________________________________ Dave, no sneak attack damage? Just curious, since I don't know what constitutes a "sneak attack."

There's a few ways to get the sneak attack damage, Brian, but the most common one is to attack an enemy who is adjacent to one of your allies. The yugoloth is standing apart from everyone at present. Sneak attack isn't just a given with any attack.
