Kal grins at Adamant. "Clever," he says. Then, seeing the ghouls ready to run towards him, Kal makes a flash decision. Although his time was spent more in martial pursuits, he knows that when herding animals, you always herd from behind, or else you get trampled. With a wink at Streko, Kal disappears in a snap of electricity, and suddenly appears just behind Adamant's shoulder. With a cry that sounds like a rancher herding cattle, Kal let's loose with a blast of fire at the two ghouls who resisted Adamant's magic. "Let the rest pass!" he yells to his friends. "Focus on the emissary!" "Tangat, to me!"
_________________ Kal will use Lightning Shift to 1 square NW of Adamant. That should provoke no opportunity attacks.
Kal will then use Scorching Ray. Two beams will go for the ghoul that was next to him, and the third for the one that Adamant had previously attacked. Scorching Ray is a ranged attack, so no cover bonuses will apply from allies or other ghouls due to Spell Sniper.
Rolls are 13, 13, and 23.
I'll roll damage for the last one. You can roll it if the first two hit (I assume they didn't)....
3 fire damage to the ghoul Adamant attacked before. Woo hoo?
Tangat should try to move to Kal only if he can avoid significant Opportunity Attacks. I think all of the ghouls around him have already used their reactions.

With only a snap of sparks, Kal flashes from one position to another, coming still again just behind Adamant. Three fiery rays hit their targets—the only two ghouls unfazed by Adaman’s castigation—as one of them is consumed in flames, while the other is merely scorched. The one to Kal’s right, on the western side, is horribly burned—but it regards him with vengeful hate. Tangat darts to the edge of the passage, running past the feet of the ghouls who pay no need to him and wary of the one that days.
16 fire damage to the northwest-most ghoul (an attack roll of 13 hits, Darren; never assume!) and 3 fire damage to the northeast-most ghoul. Tangat double moves to stay out of that one ghoul's reach; the others, turned, cannot take reactions anyway (and he can see that).
Will update the map later—only change is Kal’s and Tangat’s position. They are side by side north of Adamant now. Belarin’s end of the battlefield looks the same.
Round 2:
23 = Belarin 21 = ghouls 19 = Emissary 14 = Shorak 12 = Streko 9 = Adamant 4 = Kal & Tangat

Belarin suddenly becomes visible to Shorak, standing just a few feet away. Fresh blood flows from a deep wound on his side. Just as he’s about to speak, Adamant’s radiance sends most of the ghouls fleeing recklessly away from the paladin – and toward them!
“Time to play hide and seek,” he whispers to Shorak, jerking his head toward the Emissary. “I’ll give you his back – if you can avoid the stampede.”
He calls out to the Emissary, “Hey, Dysentery! Can YOU walk through walls, too?” Belarin moves casually to his left – and vanishes as he reaches the deeper gloom of the curving stone wall.
_____________________________
Belarin moves 10 feet west and, as he reaches the shadows, uses his One with Shadows invocation to turn invisible. The Emissary may be able to see in the dark, but Belarin is guessing that – since the Emissary didn’t see him after he teleported – he can’t see through magical invisibility. I'm also hoping that the slight curve of the wall at this point will help sell Belarin's "going through the wall" taunt.

As Belarin fades from view—though the wraith clearly faces him in the instant before—the small pack of ghouls go running off southward. Their voices are pitiful and guttural, and only the halfling girl among them still sounds somewhat like a living creature. They move around the tall knightly figure of shadows as if it's a nuisance he's in their way. The two undaunted by Adamant turn their wrath against their nearest enemies: Streko and Adamant. Streko nearly dodges the lunging ghoul, but its claws catch him on the side—but fail to tear through his chain mail! The ghoul that had been stopped from its charge by Adamant now leaps full upon him, planting its feet on his chest and tearing at his torso furiously more like it's venting rage rather than trying to consume. Adamant managed to push it off, but not before its claws rip through several of his softer parts. The wraith-knight remains where he is, facing Shorak and Belarin where the warlock vanished. " You," the wraith-knight says in a commanding voice, indicating Shorak, and speaks words of magic. "Approach me." Then he raises his greatsword as if readying a strike. Shorak feels an instant compulsion to obey the thing, and is dismayed to see the crowd of ghouls between them.
● The ghouls move, then Dash. ● Ghoul's attack vs. Streko: 7 (miss) ● Ghoul's attack vs. ADamant: 24 (critical) / 11 slashing damage to Adamant ● The wraith-knight casts a spell. Shorak must make a Wisdom saving throw.
Go for it, Dave...once you make the roll, I'll post the result and then you can proceed with your turn.
14 = Shorak 12 = Streko 9 = Adamant 4 = Kal & Tangat

Streko glares at the undead creature before him, then smiles and bows.
"Good-bye."
Streko invokes his Divine Magic and cloaks himself in shadows. He will then move stealthily up to just behind the wraith.

Shorak must move toward the wraith-knight by the shortest and most direct route, ending his turn if he moves within 5 feet of it. (Meaning he prioritizes moving there, and once within 5 feet, can do nothing more. No other actions.) The ghouls will allow him to pass through, since they're not antagonistic.
After which, Streko moves invisibly up to the wraith's position, and will remain invisible until the end of his next turn. Though he'll also become visible sooner if he attacks or casts a spell.

Shorak 's eyes glaze over and his expression goes slack. Ignoring the ghouls running towards him, Shorak jerkily walks towards the wraith, stopping before him.

Adamant feels the warmth of his goddess flow through him and rejoices as nearly all the ghouls flee. "Praise be to You, Dol Arrah! Your poor servant thanks You once again..." Then the wraith takes Shorak. "No, no, no, NO!" Adamant while still fending off the teeth and claws of the enraged ghoul, mentally runs through his options. "I did not prepare properly for this day," he concludes. "Kal can you assist Shorak?" Adamant swings his new hammer at the ghoul. Each swing is accompanied by a curse, "Damn this place... damn this foul Emissary... and especially, damn Branash ir’Serell!"
Doh! I'm a big fan of the Command spell. But I purposely dropped it from my prep'ed spells at the start of the day. So now instead of the 60' range Command I've got the 30' range Compel Duel and I can't get into range to be useful. Maybe if I had a holy avenger sword I could do the Dispel Magic thing... don't know if they still have those in 5e...
So anyway, I'll attack. I don't know the stats for the new warhammer. I'll just roll it as d20+6 and damage 1d8+3. Unless it's cursed that's the worst it could be... two attacks...
dlw32:1D20+6 → 8(2 + 6)#Unidentified magic warhammer dlw32:1D8+3 → 6(3 + 3)
dlw32:1D20+6 → 19(13 + 6)#Unidentified magic warhammer dlw32:1D8+3 → 9(6 + 3)

The hammer of darkened metal, still warm to the touch, swings through open air on Adamant's first strike. On the second swing, he sees its head erupt, only for a second, in flames, but it's gone by the time it strikes the ghoul—which crunches through the creature's chest and sends gore showering to the ground. But the ghoul is still on its feet, howling with anger.
The ghoul takes 10 points of bludgeoning damage. In the very least, you can tell it's a +1 warhammer.
Adamant can sense the fiery magic of this hammer just by using it, but he'd have to become attuned to it in order to invoke it.

Kal nods at Adamant. "Just keep them off of me," he says, pointing at the ghouls. He fixes his gaze on the wraith, judging the distance, then unleashes a ball of fire towards the creature.
________________________________ Kal will use Fire Bolt on the wraith. Don't care how much damage I do, I'm just trying to break his concentration....
Attack roll is a 12. 13 may have been good enough for the ghouls, but I'm betting that misses the emissary. So much for my plan...
For whatever it's worth, if Streko hadn't moved up next to the wraith, Kal could have used Lightning Orb on it without fear of hitting an ally. Lightning Orb would have required the wraith to make a dexterity save, and he would have taken damage regardless of whether he made the save or not, which would have caused him to have to make a check for his concentration. The only reason I didn't use it is because I had no way to target the wraith without hitting either Streko, Shorak, or one of the ghouls who was on the run. A lot of Kal's spells can hit multiple targets, but he needs space around the target to not hit an ally. Something to think about when maneuvering in the future....

The knight-wraith merely angles his head sharply, ducking the fiery bolt hurled by Kal. It dissipates in the air some distance beyond him.
Beside Kal, Tangat crouches anxiously.
The spell misses! Tangat readies an attack against any creature that comes within his reach.

Belarin feels his spirit sink into the same darkness that conceals him as Shorak’s will succumbs to the Emissary’s power. This is my fault, he thinks despairingly. Time to bring it to an end. No one else will die because of me…But then the Emissary ends his threat by saying, ”Or my mercy ends now.” Rage and disbelief push aside the warlock's despair, at least for a moment, and Belarin raises his dagger. “You dare claim mercy when you have NONE?! Your master’s dead and you’re undone!!” Red-and-silver eldritch fire surges forth! Without waiting to see the impact, Belarin rushes forward out of the shadows, circling to dodge the fleeing ghouls and put himself in a position where the Emissary will have to turn away from Shorak. “I don’t know who’s more of a coward, Lackey… you or your bastard master,” he says angrily. ______________________ Belarin is invisible at the start and has advantage. He attacks with eldritch blast. Belarin: repeat 2 d20+8 → 13; 28(5 + 8);(20 + 8)#Eldritch Blast attack with advantage. OOOH, a crit on the second roll! Damage: Belarin:2D10+4 → 15(9 + 2 + 4)#Eldritch Blast critical damage. That’s 15 points to Mr. Mercy. I don’t believe the pact dagger adds to spell damage in 5e; if it does, add 1 more point. Belarin is now visible. UPDATED with 2nd attack: Belarin:1D20+8 → 18(10 + 8)#2nd Eldritch Blast attack Belarin:1D10+4 → 6(2 + 4)#Eldritch Blast damage So that’s another hit for an additional 6 points of damage (or 7 if the dagger’s bonus counts).
Movement: 10 feet east and 15 feet northeast (trying to avoid the ghouls).
In truth, Belarin was about to completely yield to despair... but that "mercy" line really set him off.

Both of Belarin's blasts of silver-and-red fire slam into the knightly figure, who steps back once from the force and turns white eyes on the warlock again, then swivels to follow him as he moves.
21 force damage to the knight-wraith!
Ken, shouldn't Belarin's attack roll b3 +7, not +8? The pact dagger—nor any arcane focus in 5E, I think—doesn't grant a bonus on those rolls, for attacking or damaging. The +1 is strictly for melee or ranged (physical) attacks. That's really a 4E thing.
I'll update the map and post the bad guys' actions soon as I can!

The ghouls keeping running southward, desperate to get away from Adamant and his blazing holy symbol. Belarin weaves around them, nearly throwing himself against the stone wall to keep clear. When they reach the chasm edge, the ghouls immediately set out across the bridge— —that isn't a bridge at all, but still just an illusion. At least the northern half is. Three of the ghouls go toppling over the edge and make a pitiful sound as they drop down into the dark fissure. The other three scuffle and halt themselves just in time to keep from going over as they stare down at their vanished companions. As they throw their heads over their shoulders, looking back with manic eyes, the tiny halfling among them is the first to act. She leaps over to the wall and jumps up onto it, seeming intent to crawl around. Shorak feels an instant compulsion to obey the thing, and is dismayed to see the crowd of ghouls between them.
● The six ghouls continue their movement, then three of them are gone.

Font FaceFont Size With Shorak standing before him, the knight-wraith instantly bears down on him with a sweep of his mighty sword! No longer seized by compulsion, Shorak rolls with the blow and only gets a scrape of the blade, but on the backswing the creature sword catches him on the back. With the bite of the steel into the half-drow's flesh, a terrifying chill sinks into him as well. The knightly figure twists in place, eyeing Belarin again. "How many will fall before you concede?" he asks in his hollow voice.

Shorak growls at the wraith. "I don't see why you bother, since we're already dead. You're only causing us extra pain. Regardless, I won't stand here waiting for your next attack!" With that, Shorak spins away from the undead monster. He moves away from him to the south, turns back and launches his tri-bladed boomerang at the undead knight. "And you're only ensuring your own destruction!" As he waits for his weapon to return to his waiting hand, Shorak turns his head slightly to yell towards the pit. "Hey Spider Mom! The main course is served up here! Come and get him! And release our friend!"
Shorak uses Cunning Action to disengage from the wraith and moves 2 squares SW and 2 squares South.

The Xen'drik boomerange slaps into the wraith-knight's head directly, momentarily blinding him and eliciting an angry sound that's neither human nor ghostly.
I'm going to rule that although Streko is invisible, he's not undetectable (which is an interesting topic in and of itself, I'll address that later), and therefore the wraith-knight is aware of him near...enough to warrant Shorak's sneak attack damage.
I'll update the map with Shorak's movement later.

Jeff, did you take a turn for the two ghouls who saved Adamant's Turn? I think Adamant's still fighting one and the other was fighting Streko until he went invisible. I'm going to continue with the assumption Addy still has to deal with them...
Adamant enjoys the warmth coming from the warhammer and senses there is more to it. "Kal, I'm growing concerned..." Adamant smashes down at the ghoul, "... that we're getting spread out along this street..." punctuated with another blow, "... but I don't want to leave you and Tangat alone back here either; should we move up?" So since I now know the warhammer is at least +1, I'll do the warhammer attacks as +7/1d8+4; just like the +1 dynamic longsword. If any of that is wrong, please feel free to patch it.So two attacks against the ghoul I'm currently dealing with. If that ghoul drops then I'll move dlw32:1D20+7 → 16(9 + 7)#swing 1dlw32:1D8+4 → 12(8 + 4)#damage 1dlw32:1D20+7 → 9(2 + 7)#swing 2dlw32:1D8+4 → 11(7 + 4)#damage 2I can't imagine the second one hits... If the ghoul drops, Adamant will advance on the second ghoul...Reminders:* From Fighting Style Protection: cause disadvantage on attacks against my friends who are adjacent. Right now only Kal* From Aura of Protection: Friendlies w/i 10 feet add my CHA (+3) to saves. Right now only Kal and Tangat.* From Sentinel: I do Op Attacks even if the creature disengages; If I hit with an Op Attack, the target's speed drops to 0; if a target w/i 5' makes an attack against anyone but me, I can counter-attack.

One more swing from Adamant's new warhammer and the ghoul in front of him goes down fast and hard. There is only the crack of cartilage and bone and then it's down, unmoving. He moves to the next one, but it easily ducks under his strike. It retaliates with a sweep of its claws, but the warforge's shield takes the hit instead of him. Horrid screams from behind Kal turn him and Tangat around with a start. Three ghouls have hurled themselves through the fiery barrier in desperation. Two of them, one a tall human, the other a diminutive gnome, are instantly wreathed in flames. They immediately drop to the ground and flail uselessly as the fire steals their ability to progress any further. The third, a whip-thin woman who might have been a half-elf, is badly burned. But she screams in rage and hunger and lunges for Tangat. Fortunately, the wolfhound dodges the blackened ghoul's deadly touch. Through the bright flames, Kal can just make out some more shapes. He wonders if a few more might make the attempt. They must be starving.
● The closest ghoul is slain. ● Adamant misses the second ghoul. ● Ghoul's attack vs. Adamant: 9 (miss) ● Three ghouls take 18 points of fire damage as they move through the Wall of Fire; two of them are slain outright. ● Ghoul's attack vs. Tangat: 8 (miss)

Just then, a woman’s voice speaks softly, barely discernible in the din of combat. The words are an incantation, and it has everyone except Kal and Tangat (who have a scorched ghoul close at hand) looking over to the bottom of the stairway that cuts through the rock wall on the east side of the passage where the knight-wraith first emerged. But now it’s the same robed and staff-wielding figure you saw earlier, hooded, unclear. The voice is in monotone.
But immediately, the knight-wraith issues a gasp-like sound that almost sounds like one made by a living thing. He clutches at his helmet. The dark figure whirls around to regard the woman. He holds one hand out as if to keep her at bay. “It cannot be….” his hollow voice issues.
The knight-wraith is effectively frightened, and has disadvantage on ability checks and attack rolls while the woman is within his line of sight. Nor can he move anywhere in her direction.
Kal's up on the initiative now.

"Yes," Kal says to Adamant as the flaming ghouls push through the wall, "I think moving would be an excellent idea." Kal flings a bolt of fire at the ghoul attacking Tangat, then advances to stay in step with the warforged.
_______________________ Kal will use Fire Bolt on the ghoul attacking Tangat.

Belarin had been preparing a biting retort to the Emissary’s last ultimatum, but he’s momentarily struck dumb by the sight before him. The Emissary is … frightened. What could scare something like the wraith, here, where he walks as a dead man amongst the dead? He looks over at the staff-wielding woman. He feels he should know her…. “The payment’s due for your misdeeds / So tell me now, do spirits bleed?!!” His dagger-wielding hand unleashes two more bolts of eldritch fire as he moves toward Shorak. _________________________ Belarin: repeat 2 d20+7 → 18; 19(11 + 7);(12 + 7)#Eldritch Blast attacks: 18 and 19, both of those should hit. The knight-wraith accepts the blasts of Belarin's attacks stoically, though perhaps more distractedly. The three ghouls near the edge of the spider pit begin to scale the walls to go around it. The halfling leads the way, screeching like a banshee as she does—yet she crawls across the side of the canyon like she was a cat burglar in life. The other two, more ponderous specimens scrabble at the wall and move more slowly. And then spidery forms begin to issue from the pit, not unexpectedly. The two slower-moving ghouls are snatched from the wall with writhing legs. They disappear in seconds. Heedless of this, the helmed knight-wraith moves swiftly away from the female figure and bears down on Belarin. Streko manages a clean swipe with the Crescent of Therendor, but the creature seems to care little for the shadowy-blooded wound. ● Knight-wraith took 20 damage from Belarin's spell. ● Streko’s opportunity attack vs. knight-wraith: 25 (hit) / 4 slashing damage to the knight-wraith"NO," the undead warrior says in what sounds a lot like terror. "Mother, you ARE DEAD AND GONE! If you would claim me, you will take this one as well!" The knight-wraith clutches briefly at his own head, then turns a less-than-composed flurry of attacks upon Belarin. The massive blade slashes through the air in rapid succession. Belarin tries his most desperate attempt to dodge the attacks, but only manages to keep from being decapitated outright. The blade bites into his body once, leaving a savage wound, spraying blood upon both himself and Shorak. In the blink of an eye, Belarin fancies he catches his own reflection in the blade, despite the lack of significant light around him, and sees his own face is a mask of death. He sees, he is sure, his own death. Then on the final backswing, the heavy sword smacks into Belarin’s pact dagger and wrenches it painfully from his gasp. The dagger clatters to the floor between them. The knight-wraith then visibly calms again. He swivels his helmed head back toward the robed woman. "Deceiver," he pronounces like an insult. Belarin isn't sure if the creature's wrath will be against him or her. ● Knight-wraith’s disadvantaged first attack vs. Belarin: 26 & 27 (hit) / 12 slashing damage and 5 necrotic damage to Belarin ● Belarin's Strength saving throw: 3 (failure) / Belarin is disarmed of his arcane focus. ● The pact dagger can be picked up but doing so would provoke an opportunity attack from the knight-wraith. ● Knight-wraith’s disadvantaged second attack vs. Belarin: 21 & 11 (miss) ● Knight-wraith's Wisdom saving throw to throw off the spell: 24 (success) / He is no longer frightened.
At first I forgot the knight-wraith was disadantaged, so there was a lot more damage done to Belarin. But by adding disadvantaged rolls to the mix, the second attack turned out to be a miss. Wanted you to know it helped you.
Map update later. The knight-wraith (W) is now one square NE of Belarin. Two of the ghouls by the pit are gone.

Shorak moves closer to the edge of the pit, staying away from the wall that the halfling ghoul is climbing. "Hey miss spider!" He yells down into the pit again. "There's a special treat for you up here! Come and get him!" He turns back towards the knight wraith and hurls his boomerang again at the creature.
Shorak moves 1 or 2 squares south. Whichever square is at the edge of the pit.
Ranged Attack at disadvantage: Roll #1 1d20+8=24, Roll #2 1d20+8=25 Slashing damage: 1d6+5=8 Sneak attack damage 4d6=17
Where's a giant undead eating spider when you need one?
