Condign watches Belarin break free of the ooze just as the ship lurches violently. And then the ooze strikes at Adamant, gripping the warforged in ugly, oily tentacles. While his friend's face isn't that flexible, Condign can see that the strike hurt. The tiefling strides boldly up to the ooze, taking up a position opposite of Adamant. "It looks like you could use a little assistance," he calls out to Adamant. "We two shall deliver this vile creature back to its maker!" Then with a flourish of sword and shield, Condign takes a mighty swipe at the monster, his blade cutting a bright arc through the air. _________________________________ Movement Action: Move one square SE and one square E.
Minor Action: use Inspiring Word on Adamant.
Standard Attack: use Hammer and Anvil on ooze. Adamant gets a basic attack as a free action.

Shorak rides the rocking ship and lets fly again with his boomerang, trying a slightly higher arc. It just misses the ceiling and flies toward the ooze. As he catches the returning weapon he looks around to see if the vampire that Condign yelled a warning about is visible anywhere. Sly Flourish (1d20+10=21)Damage in case that's a hit(1d6+10=13)

Belarin lurches but maintains his balance. "Krez is here?!" he says with venom. Somehow Condign's bold call to revenge has reenergized him. The pain of the ooze's attack is nearly forgotten. "Where is Corporal Krez?" he yells mockingly as he backs toward Kal. "Or have you been demoted to Sergeant after your debacle on the Ex-Patriot?" By the time he reaches the relatively sturdiness of the crates on the port side, the shadows have again embraced the warlock. A grim smile plays on his face as he waits a moment before attacking. _______________________________ Jeff: Belarin will delay again. Bump him down to 20 in the initiative count, please. Move: 2 squares southeast and 2 squares east to the square just south of Kal's position. Concealment from Shadow Walk back in effect. If Krez doesn't appear: Standard: Attack the ooze with eyebite vs. Will: 1d20+7=26. Nice. Damage: 1d6+5=10, plus 1d6=1 = 11 psychic damage, and Belarin is invisible to the ooze until the start of his next turn (not that it matters). If Krez does appear before Belarin goes and if Krez is within 4 squares of the ooze: Minor: Inflict Warlock's Curse on Krez. Standard: Still attack the ooze, but this time with curse of the dark dream vs. Will. Using the d20 roll above, that'll be a hit, and Belarin will shift the ooze 3 squares toward Krez. The ooze likely won't know the difference between Krez and us. If these conditions don't occur or if the ooze can't be shifted because someone is in the way, I'll stick with the eyebite attack.

Round 4
26 = Shorak (sly flourish) 22 = Histra 22 = Streko (lance of faith) 22 = Condign (hammer and anvil) 22 = Belarin (delays to count 20) 22 = an old friend 22 = Crewmen 20 = Belarin (eyebite) 13 = Tangat 13 = Adamant (escape attempts) 13 = Kal (lightning orb) 11 = Ooze-thing (splitting up and attacking) ________________________ Shorak and Streko renew their attack, but ineffectually. The half-drow's boomerang hits the ooze, but merely skims a thin layer off the top...not nearly enough to significantly harm the creature. The halfling's spell is misfired. Condign strides over beside Belarin and uses both his sword and shield in the attack, but the ooze too swiftly evades the attack. • Shorak's attack (sly flourish) misses the ooze. • Belarin escapes being grabbed, then shifts 1 square. • Condign's attack (hammer and anvil) misses the ooze.
Belarin waits for Krez to appear, but when the vampire does not, rushes over toward Kal and levies a spell against the ooze from afar. This time the spell seems to hit—the creature shrieks under the psychic assault, despite the obvious lack of a brain, then it suddenly separates itself into two distinct, writhing oozes, each only slightly smaller than before! Condign finds himself facing two of the hideous creatures. Tangat's head turns suddenly, ears up, and bolts off down the nearest hall, barking his fool head off. When Adamant fails to unstick himself from the closest of the two oozes, which still has him ensnared, he keeps trying...finally wrenching himself free. But for how long? Kal hurls lightning at the nearest of the two, but the rocking ship is making it difficult to do so effectively. • Belarin's attack (eyebite) hits the ooze. The ooze takes 11 psychic damage and Belarin is invisible to it until the start of his next turn. • The ooze is bloodied. • The ooze splits into two oozes. • Adamant escapes #1. • Adamant's Divine Challenge remains in place on ooze #1, but not #2. • Kal's attack (lightning orb) misses ooze #1.
The two smaller oozes immediately lunge at Condign, their nearest target. The first one is sprayed with burning, radiant light for ignoring Adamant, but it's not enough to check its attack. Condign is ready for them, with shield up and sword out, but his armor avails him not. They're too damned fast. Pseudopods from both creatures punch into him, and tendrils shoot out from both, ensnaring his legs and sending a deathly chill throughout his body. Condign feels the ship around him swaying more than it should... • Roll to recharge one ooze #1's powers: 6 (success) • Roll to recharge one ooze #2's powers: 6 (success) • Ooze #1's attack vs. Condign's Reflex: 23 -2 (Divine Challenge) = 21 (hit) / 9 damage to Condign and Condign is grabbed • 7 radiant damage to ooze #1 from Divine Challenge. • Ooze #1's secondary attack vs. Condign's Fortitude: 27 (hit) / 10 necrotic damage to Condign • Ooze #2's attack vs. Condign's Reflex: 29 (hit) / 7 damage to Condign and Condign is grabbed • Ooze #2's secondary attack vs. Condign's Fortitude: 30 (hit) / 17 necrotic damage to Condign • Condign is extremely bloodied. _______________________________ Yup, Condign's been grabbed twice. That's two ooze's he'd have to escape from to get un-mobilized.

Shorak again attempts to do some damage to this threat, but the lurching of the ship, his concern for the captain, the splitting in two of the monster and both of them wrapping themselves around condign, cause him to be too cautious with his throw. His weapon misses the ooze completely. Sly Flourish (1d20+10=16)Hey Jeff, can I have one of the ooze's rolls?

Condign grunts from the pain as the ooze splits in two and attacks. He feels the tendrils of ooze grip him; far too many to escape from right now. Weakness floods through him. If the oozes weren't holding him, he may have collapsed to the deck. Fury builds within him--a rage that is part of his devilish ancestry. He lashes out with his sword, putting as much ferocity as he can into his blow. Then, knowing his life is on the line, he finds the resolve to take another swing . . . and hopes he has done enough. ________________________ All attacks are on Ooze #1 unless it is dead before my turn. Then it will be on Ooze #2.
Minor Action: Infernal Wrath on Ooze #1 Standard Action: Stand the Fallen on Ooze #1
Attack Roll vs AC: (1d20+13=17) (Just dandy.)
Everyone within 10 squares get to spend a healing surge with 3 additional points of healing.
Action Point used.
Standard Action: Bastion of Defense on Ooze #1
Attack Roll vs AC: (1d20+12=32) (Finally)
Damage is 35 + Critical Damage for Sword and Bracers: (3d6=11) for a total of 46 points of damage. ;D
Everyone within 5 squares gets a +1 bonus to all defenses until end of the encounter. Everyone within 5 squares gains 8 temporary hit points.
Movement Action: escape attempt vs Ooze #2
Athletics vs Fortitude: (1d20+6=26) (Wow, two 20s in a row.)

Kal searches the knot of emotion in his brain that is Tangat, wondering where his friend has gone. Face grim, he sets himself to the task at hand..... _____________ Jeff, I'm going to put some rolls here, but I'll need you to determine what Kal is actually doing. Here's the plan....
If both of the oozes are still alive by the time Kal goes, he will move into a position that allows him to use Burning Spray on both without hitting any allies (should be possible).
If one of the oozes is dead, Kal will hold his position and use Lightning Orb on the other one.
If both oozes are alive, but Kal can't possibly get into a position to use Burning Spray without hitting someone, he will just use Lightning Orb on whichever one appears to be weaker.
? vs. Reflex (1d20+8=27)
I'll let you roll damage since I don't know which damage roll(s) to make, yet.
Also, is Kal getting anything from Tangat?

Belarin sees the ooze split into two halves, which brings back unpleasant memories of Shadowcrest Manor. Not so unpleasant, he mentally corrects. I forged ties with these people there. Well... some of them. He ponders how much has changed during this tumultuous year, and the people who have come and gone. But when the two oozes strike viciously at Condign, all reflection ceases! He moves quickly across the deck, pointing his dagger and chanting on the go: "I'll lose no friends to such as you / Your feeble mind I'll soon slice through!" _____________________________ Move: 5 squares due west to the barrels on the other side. Concealment from Shadow Walk and bonus from Empowering Shadows continue. Minor: I think the Warlock's Curse is now on both oozes. If not, Belarin curses the other one. Standard: The oozes' Will defense is obviously the lowest, so I'll stick with eyebite. Attacking Ooze #1 if it's still alive; Ooze #2 otherwise: 1d20+7=17. Damage, if that hit: 1d6+5=6, plus 1d6=6 for Warlock's Curse = 12 psychic damage, and Belarin is invisible to that ooze until the start of his next turn.
Belarin doesn't need to spend another healing surge, but will happily take the temp hp.

Streko makes a move toward the other side of the ship (2 spaces southwest of Condign), wedging himself as best he can behind what appears to be a barrel and next to another crate. He reaches out toward ooze #2 and calls out to Olladra. "Just this once, please, the stench is getting to be too much! Condign, I hope this helps." ____________________________________________________ MOVE ACTION: To a point 2 spaces southwest of Condign.
STANDARD ACTION: Streko casts LANCE OF FAITH.

Adamant gets free of the ooze and is astonished when it splits in half. "Is it supposed to do that?!? Belarin? Did you mean to make another?" "I guess two small or one large, it's much the same fight." he moves in with the long, heavy blade. -------------------------
Challenged at Beginning of round: oozy thing 1
Okay, this is a little complicated...
If ooze 1 is still alive, then: Move Action: shift 1 SW to stand next to Condign
Standard Action: Bolstering Strike vs AC(1d20+13=31) on ooze 1 Damage (1d10+7=11) And on a hit Adamant gains 3 temp hp
Minor Action: lay on hand on Condign. He gains his healing surge +4, but it doesn't cost him a surge; Adamant pays the surge (1st lay on hands of 3)
======= or ========
If ooze 1 is dead, then: Move Action: shift 1 SE to line up the charge
Standard Action: charge ooze 2 (move due W) Basic Attack vs AC (1d20+12=32) critical damage (17+2d6=21)
Minor Action: lay on hand on Condign. He gains his healing surge +4, but it doesn't cost him a surge; Adamant pays the surge (1st lay on hands of 3)
Challenged at end of round: Oozy thing 1 if still alive; otherwise none

Round 5
26 = Shorak 22 = Histra 22 = Streko 22 = Condign 22 = an old friend 22 = Crewmen 20 = Belarin 13 = Tangat 13 = Adamant 13 = Kal 11 = Ooze-thing ________________________ Shorak catches his boomerang again, frustrated. Streko moves to another vantage, ducking behind a barrel and unleashing another prayer. The halfling can't tell if the ooze can see or not, but somehow it's anticipating his attacks, and shrinks away from his blast of radiant light. It even makes a hideous slurping sound when it does so. Behind them both, Histra's voice calls out. "If you allow Belarin to die, I will kill you myself. Go, stop standing there." It's unclear who she's addressing, but Shorak suspects it's him. Condign strikes at one of the oozes, and though, his determination is infectious. He seems unafraid of—mostly just angry at—the creatures as he tries to tear away. With a snarl and a flash of flame, he seems to spin and hew at the oozes with a true devil's fury. Three vicious slashes lays open the first ooze, throwing it onto the floor in foul ribbons...they continue to twitch and seep vile fluids but they writhe no more. Bolstered by his success in cutting down the first ooze, Condign wrenches himself free from the second one with a grunt and a lash of his tail. He steps back to get a breath of air slightly less foul that the air around the oozes. • Shorak's attack (sly flourish) misses ooze #1. • Streko's attack (lance of faith) misses ooze #2. • Condign's attack (stand the fallen) misses ooze #1, but grants all allies the opportunity to spend a healing surge and gain an additional 3 hit points. • Condign spends an action point. • Condign's attack (bastion of defense) hits ooze #1, dealing 46 damage. Streko, Kal, and Belarin gain a +1 bonus to all defenses until the end of the encounter and gain 8 temporary hit points. • Ooze #1 is slain. • Condign's Athletics check to escape ooze #2 succeeds. He is no longer grabbed.
Maintaining his cloak of shadows, Belarin moves swiftly across the hold, stopping just behind Streko, then throws another psychic attack, this time at the second remaining ooze. But the attack just rolls off its non-mind. Adamant strides over to the remaining half of the ooze, almost but not quite slipping in the remains of the first half. His greatsword slice the creature almost in two, but it still quivers with life. A half second later, a sphere of electricity crackles across the hold as Kal fires another spell. This one hits the remaining creature dead-on and sparks and burns some of its mass away. The ooze squeals like a dying snail...but still it writhes hungrily! Through his empathic link, Kal senses agitation from Tangat. He knows his friend is uninjured, but he's definitely barking at someone or something furiously. He can even hear him just beneath the rumbling of the storm. From the revulsion in Tangat's mind, Kal suspects that something is undead. The ooze, whether reacting to some instinct or actual cognizant of its danger, recoils from Adamant, then slides across the floor and up through the hallway swiftly in retreat. From where Belarin and Streko are positioned, they can see the ooze about to overtake the female crewmember in the hallway, the one collapsed to the floor. • Belarin's attack (eyebite) misses ooze #2. • Adamant's attack (charge + basic melee) hits ooze #2 / 21 damage to ooze #2. • Kal's attack (lightning orb) hits ooze #2 / • Ooze #2 shifts 1 square, then moves 5 squares. • Ooze #2 spends an action point and moves again. lightning orb damage (1d10+5=14) to ooze #2 _______________________________ Hey, Dave W. One of the consequences of using a charge action is: No Further Actions: The creature can’t take any further actions during this turn, except free actions. So he can't use Lay on Hands this round.
So who all wishes to take advantage of Condign's Stand the Fallen power and spend a healing surge and gain an additional 3 hit points?
Sorry, Dave B., but only the monsters get access to the Secret Dice Roller That My Players No Doubt Believe I Am Fudging With.
To all: Please always include what defense your attack rolls are opposing (AC, Reflex, etc.). It saves me time. Most of you are doing this, but not all!

Kal grins as the first ooze falls, and again as the other shrieks in pain. But Tangat's agitation and the retreat of the ooze keep him from enjoying the moment for too long. "Condign, Belarin and Streko, follow that ooze and finish it off. Then head up the stairs and meet us on the top deck. Adamant and Shorak, you're with me. You crewmen, do NOT leave the Captain unguarded!" Kal dashes off down the right-side hallway as quickly as possible, heading for the stairs.
____________________ Kal will take a double move to (and up, if possible), the stairs.
We need to make sure that ooze doesn't eat the fallen crewmember. I'm guessing that's how it re-charges hit points. But that hallway is too narrow for all of us to be effective, so unfortunately, I think it's time to split the party.

Behind them both, Histra's voice calls out. "If you allow Belarin to die, I will kill you myself. Go, stop standing there." It's unclear who she's addressing, but Shorak suspects it's him. Still facing the remaining ooze, Belarin calls out, "Thank you, my dear!" He mutters to Streko, " By the Host, I think she loves me." He nods at Kal, and then he heads toward the remaining ooze, focusing his dagger and his power past Condign's clearly weakened form and into the vile creature. "Idiot ooze, you foully smell / Your stench and life I now expel!" ____________________________________ Love the Histra comment, Jeff. Technically, Belarin could have teleported last round, but there was no place more advantageous to go, so he stays put. Move: Belarin moves 1 sq NE, 1 sq N, 2 sq, NW, and 1 sq N. Shadow Walk remains in effect. Standard: Attack the ooze with eyebite vs. Will: 1d20+7=25. Damage: 1d6+5=10, plus 1d6=1 for Warlock's Curse = 11 psychic damage, and Belarin is invisible to the ooze until the start of his next turn. Assuming the ooze is still alive by the time it goes and attacks the woman, Condign, or anybody else... Immediate Interrupt: Attack the ooze again with sudden retaliation (eyebite) vs. Will. The ooze grants combat advantage to Belarin, as he's invisible: 1d20+9=22. Damage: Sudden Retaliation (eyebite) damage (1d6+5=6) = additional 6 psychic damage
Joe: You may want to consider using an action point on Streko's turn. If the ooze hits, then likely either Condign or the woman are dropping this round.

Streko immediately races down the hallway, moving as far as his legs will carry him. He stops, within range of the ooze and braces himself firmly against the wall. This time, as he calls out to Her in his mind, he feels Olladra's own frustration filling him with energy and rage. She Shall Not Be Denied! The power of his beloved Goddess fills his mind, his soul, consuming him and then, abruptly, erupting outward from his holy symbol in a viciously tight and focused beam of light that cleaves into the smelly substance. The next sound he makes is barely a whisper, but powerful enough for Belarin to feel it's effects. "Destroy this thing, my friend. Destroy it now!" Streko then yells a word in the Halfling Tongue, followed by what Condign thinks is his own name, although in a roughter, strange accent than he has ever heard it spoken before. At that moment, the Tiefling feels strength returning to him in a wave of heat that feels like warm air moving around and through him. ____________________________________________________ MOVEMENT ACTION: 6 squares toward the ooze.
STANDARD ACTION: Streko casts LANCE OF FAITH.
ATTACK: 1d20+7=25

Round 6
26 = Shorak 22 = Histra 22 = Streko
________________________ Shorak moves away from the door, joining his companions across the hold. Streko runs into the corridor, the first to pursue the retreating ooze, then summons and hurls another lance of radiant light. This time the bolt strikes the creature at its center of mass, and appears to blast the creature in every direction, spattering the walls with its vile form.... And what remains of it, caked on the floor and on the walls, merely twitches. Streko wastes no time. Even as he sees the wounded crewmember just beyond the ooze's form—looking weakly back at him—he speaks words of power to Condign and the tiefling feels the burn of his wounds cool considerably. The deep chill inside him is washed away. • Streko's attack (lance of faith) hits ooze #2, dealing 12 radiant damage and giving Belarin a +2 power bonus on his next attack against it. • Ooze #2 is slain! • Streko uses healing word on Condign. Condign spends an action point and heals a total of 25 hit points.
Adamant heads down the other hallway, clomping loudly as he runs, as Belarin moves behind Streko with his pact dagger aimed...and then he sees the ooze now just a disgusting mess in the corridor, its smell and appearance more offensive than anything else. Condign, feeling markedly better now, storms past human and halfling just to be sure. He stops when he sees the ooze no longer threatening the crewmember... Who looks up feebly at him. "Hurts," she says, trying to indicate the messy gash at her neck, but wincing even in that gesture. Almost at that same time, you hear something heavy strike the floorboards on the deck above. With the ooze "dead" (if indeed it was alive), you can hear Tangat barking even more. It sounds like he's back in the galley (kitchen), still barking furiously at something. _______________________________ Heh. Turns out all it needed was more good hit.
Darren, I wasn't sure which side you wanted to head toward the stairs on.
In any case, we're out of turn-based mode for the moment.

Belarin calls out, "It'd dead!" for the benefit of his friends on the other side and those in the captain's quarters. He continues in a normal voice, "Well struck, Good Streko. That was nearly as foul smelling as Condign's..." He pauses as he sees the helpless woman on the floor. He sticks his hands out almost apologetically, not sure how best to assist... and then he steps over her to follow the sound of Tangat's barking.

As he moves up the hallway, Kal realizes that Tangat's barking is not coming from the top deck, but rather from the rear of the ship. He also hears the heavy noises from above and hopes that the crew can continue to handle whatever Krez has brought with him. Throwing open the door to the sickbay, Kal charges through to the other side of the room, making his way up the center hallway and to the galley.

"Olladra, thank You, most wonderful Goddess. Alas, as is usually the case, I am not quite finished calling out and requesting Your aid."
He races up to the infured crew-person. He reaches back for a healing kit. "I seem to be going through these more quickly than I had anticipated." He administers aid. "Return to your quarters and lock the door. You shall be safe there for the time being."
"I hope," he mutters under his breath.
He then turns to see Belarin. "Sorry about that. I had no idea it was that...fragile...or odoriferous. Is that a word? Why do we always seem to face the smelly monsters? In any event, lead on, good Belrain. We must assist Tangat, although I fear we may have to return to deal with these bitten crew at some point. Blast, but won't I be quiet! Move on, I shall follow."

As the ooze is destroyed, Shorak stops in the hold.
"Perhaps I should stand guard here. Just in case" That is exactly what he does. Keeping his eyes open, watching for anything that might appear or be amiss.
Turning towards the cabin, he calls to Histra. "The oozey things are defeated and Belarin still lives."

As Kal crashes through the sickbay a thought occurs to him. He takes a quick turn and dashes quickly into the cabin he has been sharing with his friends. Grabbing his sharrash, he grins, then continues on towards the sound of Tangat's barking.
_______________ Unless something is standing between Kal and that room or if Krez is standing in the center hallway when Kal gets there, he'll make the quick side-trip to retrieve the sharrash.

Streko finds the wounded crewmember is not a quick fix. She's lost a lot of blook. So by the time he applies the initial bandage and has begun to help her to her feet (no easy feat for the halfling), Belarin and Condign have passed him by and his ending words may have gone unheard. Streko also sees the women in the cabin lying unconscious, one of them looking badly hurt. Kal passes through the central hallway, finding it empty, and the door at the very end still closed and locked. In fact, it looks like that door has been roughly handled. The wood is slightly warped and cracked in places, but it looks like it never came open. Since that way is shut—he's not even sure what that room's supposed to be—Kal is forced to go back the way he came to head toward Tangat. He joins Adamant in the outer hall as both work their way back toward the stern. Tangat has fallen quiet. When Belarin and Condign turn the corner near the mess and galley area, they see Tangat, eyes flattened, quiet now, looking as subdued as if he'd been sprayed by a skunk. He's facing the galley door, which hangs open.... And a horrid stench seems to be originating there. Something vaguely organic, but powerfully nauseating. Shorak remains in the central hold, awaiting the next event. Histra doesn't respond to him, occupied as she is. Refresh, as always.

"Damnation!" He turns to the lady next to him. "Go back to the Captain's cabin. There are others there who will protect you while we take care of the rest of these invaders. Now, hurry off!"
Streko waits until the injured female has made her way to the front of the ship before stepping into the cabin to assist the crewman who looks most hurt.
"I'm not sure how much time I have here, but I can at lest stabilize you and promise to return."
Streko will try yet one more kit on the female who got tossed around. Once stabilized, he will leave the room, close the door securely behind him and make his way tward the stern of the ship, where he hopes his friends still are. ____________________________________________________
Streko will also not move into the room until such time as the first injured crewman is out of his site. He will work as quickly as possible to stabilize the crewman before heading out. Streko will be working in pure defensive mode here.

Okay, now that I see the entire map, I can see that most of the assumptions I've been operating under for the last couple of days were false. I thought Tangat had gone upstairs because I thought the hallway ended at the stairs. I also thought the cabin opposite the sickbay was ours, and that the door at the end of that central hallway led to the galley.
Since Kal is going right past it, he will make a very brief stop into the male crewmember's cabin to grab his sharrash, then keep going up the hallway to where Tangat is.
